This turned out perfect, Xylomon.   Hopefully the tutorial was easy for you to follow, and there weren't any problems.  The shader is excellent.  Thank you for the mention!

thank you my friend !
your tutorial was easy enough to follow , there are only a few steps which are different , the basic object for example isn't a default mesh in c4d so i had to adjust one of the platonics first and the function select similar doesn't exist in c4d ( without using a plugin ) but everything else was straight forward ( if you know your way around the basic functions of c4d because a lot of the tools and commands have different names )

I knew C4D would have all the necessary features to create the object; i's just a matter of translating the terms and tools, which at times can lead to confusion.  But you've done a great job here.

thanks again . what i would wish for though is a select similar option by default in cinema , i mean i have seen some plugins but i think if software like blender gives you this select option by default so should c4d , maybe in the next release .

I agree.  Select Similar has become a very important part of my workfow, and I use it as often as I do Symmetry, or other common tools.  If Maxon keeps a wishlist for users of the software, perhaps check to make sure Select Similar is in there, so it has a chance to make it in a future release.

if there is such a forum i am baffled at the fact that it hasn't been mentioned already , i guess if they were to incorporate such an option it would be in release 18 because 17 is about to hit the shelf in september ( maybe it is already a feature in 17 but i would have to look that up , sure hope for a positive surprise though )

Oh WOW!  I love this shape!  You did an awesome job, it looks just like the tutorial!  I really love the material you gave it here.  I'm going to try to do this tutorial also, but I'm using Modo.  Not sure if I can follow it in Modo.  I give you a lot of credit to be able to follow it in C4D.  I know that's a great software too!

thank you very much !
i love my cinema4d and to me it is the best 3d software out there ( i am of course very biased in my view ) but it sure could use some of the features 3ds max has or even blender like select similar , that little select option would make my life so much easier .
i haven't used modo yet but i have heard a lot of great things about it , the tutorials i have seen on vimeo and youtube certainly make it look like a lot of fun to work with .

Modo is fun, but I have not found it to be user friendly at all.  It took me a while to learn even basic modelling function.  I will say that the modelling tools are powerful, and great for subdivision modelling.  I don't think Modo has a Select Similar by default.  It does have a feature where you can select all polygons of a certain number of sides, but that's not quite the same as what 3dsmax and Blender have.  I think the one in 3dsmax works by some kind of magic, because it seems to do the job in just one click, but the Blender one has a lot of options, and takes some testing to find the right match.

i only saw a couple of tutorials on it but it seemed to be very powerful with lots of options . i probably would give the demo a shot if i had more time to learn a new software but i am still very happy with c4d and will stick with what i know for now .
i give blender a lot of leeway because it is freeware but you have to be very into it to really appreciate it , i personally couldn't get into it what so ever but i still love it for what it is , like ubuntu or mint .
