keys to success

By
a wall of keys in downtown wilmington..

Artist: Dixon Stetler
Project Name: "Keys with a View"
Number of Keys: 56,000+
Installation Date: 2009

"For the little girl with her diary, a key represents privacy. For the latchkey kid, it's security. For the 16-year-old who just got his license, it's freedom. For the new homeowner, it's a dream realized."

Huh? I took this photo. Look at the EXIF data. It's not a difficult photo to take.

I love this!!! so striking, industrial, yet free-form. I love that it's off-kilter, too for the interesting angle :)

I like how you got the camera to focus specifically on that one key as well.

it's a beautiful photograph worthy of a frame :)

Wow, that's a really neat photo! I'm not very well-versed in photography, so I unfortunately don't have much that's intelligent to say... but do you happen to know why the keys are there?

I just read an article about it - had something to do with an art project titled "Keys with a View" where the artist installed 56,000 keys and paperclips on construction fence. The artist created it because keys are a "common denominator" among people - everyone has them. Which I guess isn't really true for the homeless... Regardless, it's mostly just a conceptual piece for people to ogle at and wonder about.

Unfortunately, it was installed back in 2009, so today the key fence has barely 20 or 30 keys on it. Kind of sad to walk by it now, but it was quite a spectacle back then. :)

A few more photos can be found on the artist's "Community Projects" page if you're interested: mica.digication.com/dixonstetl…

Hmm, that's really interesting, thank you! It's a shame so many of the original keys are missing, but it must still be really nice to look at.

they've been there since forever actually

I'm aware ;) It's been nearly 3 years since I've uploaded this and was fairly new to the Wilmington area. Now I know they are still around but I have yet to figure out why.
