Ataru became the first king of the territory nicknamed The Pridelands. Before his marriage to a lioness chosen for him named Fahari- Ataru had a fling with a lioness who was a cub-sitter named Penda. Their fling resulted in a beautiful daughter Ataru adored and named Kiara meaning princess, as she was his first born and therefore named Heir. His wife meanwhile disliked the lioness and her bastard cub, feeling like bastards were unworthy of holding royal titles or treatment- she felt like her first born cubs of Ataru were of higher standings than Kiara.

When all three princesses were old enough to join the hunting parties to train and learn, the three sisters were attacked by hyenas who had been causing more than trouble for the pride. Due to the attacks in general (But mostly on the three princesses), Aruta declared war on the pack of Hyenas that resulted in many lives lost- Including his own. With his death his wife rose to power, exiling Penda and sending Kiara away to The Usiku Pride, nicknamed The Night Pride. She also installed a strict rule against Bastard cubs from royal bloodlines forbidding them from holding royal titles.
