The past few weeks, I've been getting quite a few notes regarding commissions: pricing, how to get people to commission you, quality expected, etc. After reading through and replying to them all, I've decided to write a news article for anyone to refer to. Here are some of my tips on maintaining a fairly steady commissions business. I hope they help!
(1) First off, the most commonly questioned topic is: pricing.
Now, for those who take point commissions, it's necessary to realize the value of points. So for starters, lets calculate how many dollars one point is worth. Knowing that$1.00 = 80 ...you can then derive that a point is worth $0.0125, or 1.25 cents. And since there is no such thing as a quarter cent, we round down. A point is the approximate equivalent of a penny.
Now taking that into consideration, think. How much are your commissions? I've seen lots of artists around dA who sell their art for 1-50 points. One to fifty points. That's from a penny
