Krennel was born on Corulag. At a young age, he demonstrated the firm Humanocentrism as well as the sadism and penchant for brutality that would mark his later career when he helped his father burn down alien-owned farmlands so they could be seized by a Human agro-combine.
He began his Imperial service when he joined the Prefsbelt IV Naval Academy. His academy record was relatively undistinguished, except for several prizes as an intramural unarmed combat champion. In later years, Krennel still kept himself in fighting trim, and his abilities were only enhanced when his right hand and forearm were replaced by a mechanical prosthetic, which was composed of metal and glowed from within with red light.
Upon graduation, Krennel was assigned to active service under Grand Admiral Rufaan Tigellinus. Krennel's brutality grated on his refined commanding officer, and Tigellinus reassigned him to the Unknown Regions of the galaxy, where he served under the Chiss known as Thrawn as a captain in command of the Star Destroyer Reckoning. Krennel resented his position beneath a nonhuman officer, as well as his post at the Unknown Regions, but could not voice his frustrations to Thrawn, so he instead used his rage to escalate his brutal nature on the alien prisoners. Eventually, Krennel's anger towards Thrawn had him decide to use a force pike against one of Thrawn's artworks, in mockery of his superior's tendency to utilize alien artwork to exploit an alien race's weakness during battle. This resulted in Thrawn ordering one of his Noghri Death Commandos to cut his arm off from the elbow down before he could damage it. Following the incident, Krennel acquired a new respect for both Thrawn and the power of fear, as well as a prosthetic limb.[5] Eventually, he chose to disobey an order to subjugate a world. Instead, Krennel chose to pacify it via bombardment, a choice that saw him recalled to Coruscant for a personal punishment from Palpatine. Before Palpatine could deliver his judgment, he perished at Endor - leaving Krennel, sure of vindication, feeling as if he had a stain on his record.
In the wake of the Battle of Endor, Krennel was promoted to the rank of admiral. On the orders of Ysanne Isard, director of Imperial Intelligence, he took Reckoning to the planet Axxila in an attempt to capture an Alliance force led by Leia Organa. Krennel had his TIE/LN starfighter complement fire upon local civilians to draw out the Rebels, but was forced to withdraw, empty-handed, by an AT3 Directive issued by Imperial defector Soontir Fel, posing as an undercover operative. At the insistence of Imperial regent Sate Pestage, Krennel obeyed, at the same time allowing a freighter carrying pirate Captain Leonia Tavira to jump to lightspeed. Unbeknownst to the admiral, Pestage had negotiated with both Tavira and the Rebels to secure their support in his own defection. Pestage fled Imperial Center for Ciutric IV and Krennel, aligned with General Paltr Carvin of the tribunal that took the regent's place and eager to make up for his deception at Axxila, was assigned on a retrieval mission to Ciutric. While assessing a tactical hologram for the coming operation, the admiral was intercepted by Isard, who negotiated possession of Pestage for political power and the addition of the Interdictor-class Star Destroyer Binder to Krennel's own Reckoning.
When Pestage escaped the New Republic, he sought asylum with Krennel, unaware of his hatred for the Grand Vizier. Krennel strangled Pestage and seized his holdings in the Ciutric Hegemony, before coldly murdering Pestage's entire family. Krennel then styled himself as a warlord, with the title of "Prince-Admiral." For the next few years Krennel would maintain a defensive posture with the exception of defeating fellow Warlord Moff Walang Grazz and annexing his territory. Krennel made sure to avoid provoking the powerful neighboring Warlord Kingdoms of Ardus Kaine's Penatastar Alignment and Zsinj's Empire.
During Thrawn's campaign, Krennel offered monetary support and pretended to pay heed to his former commander's call for unity. In 9 ABY, after the defeat of Thrawn at Bilbringi, Krennel was targeted to be an example to warlords of the New Republic's newly strengthened policy against them.
With the clone of Ysanne Isard, Krennel began to sow chaos in the New Republic between Human and nonhuman species, waylay freight traffic to Coruscant at Liinade III, and raid Coruscant. The alliance between the clone and Krennel proved fruitful initially as Krennel's military prowess led to several victories against the New Republic in his territory and the clone Isard's political manipulations helped divide the New Republic and undermine public support for their war against Krennel's kingdom. Rogue Squadron through subterfuge and infiltration with the aid of the original Ysanne Isard brought an end to the Clone Isard and laid the groundwork for Krennel's defeat. Wedge Antilles sabotaged Ciutric's shield generators and forwarded intelligence provided by Isard to the New Republic Defense Fleet, which dispatched a fleet to Ciutric before Krennel's forces could launch their attack. While Krennel held the initial advantage, forcing the New Republic advance force back, the fleet, under the command of Admiral Gial Ackbar turned the tables and crushed Krennel's forces in a Thrawn Pincer when the Warlord had Binder's gravity wells activate to prevent a New Republic retreat. General Bel Iblis and Admiral Bell were pulled in at point blank range to Krennel's flagship in their Victory Class Star Destroyers Selonian FIre and Corusca Fire. Both New Republic Destroyers unleashed missile and proton torpedo broadsides that tore into Krennel's flagship. Krennel died aboard his flagship, Reckoning, when a concussion missile launched from either the Selonian Fire or Corusca Fire pierced the forward viewport, shattering the viewport and sending shards of transparisteel through Krennel's body. When the missile exploded, Krennel and the entire bridge were destroyed. The New Republic then seized the shield-stripped capital of the Hegemony.

That one Imperial warlord looks like a Nazi (its the blonde haircut)...
