Edit: This is no longer a method I use, nor recommend. I'm keeping it up in case someone finds it useful.
Instead of gluing the pieces, sew them together instead, on a larger scale. These tiny pieces are time consuming and just look weird. Make them the size of your hand or smaller and it should be good!

This is what I did for Xesh's hair/mane. It looks different now than on the pictures here, because I changed it once again. ;u;

Snow Pictures!! by Xeshaire
The suit in the pics here no longer look like that, she went through a bunch of changes. xD Keeping it up for people who need the help.
I haven't seen any tutorials around like this so I thought I would make a visual one.

YOU WILL NEED:
- Half a yard of faux fur (any color is fine, doesn't matter if you have more. )
- X-acto knife (Be careful these are very sharp!)
- Hot glue gun with hot glue sticks
- Lots of patience! (Especially when cutting the dart shapes)

I hope this will help people, and prevent people from cutting out triangle shaped hair and slap it on the head, I really hate those things. LOL But then again each to their own what they like. xD

Feel free to add this to groups so other people can see! :3

Also, as a note;
You don't have to cut it out tiny, you can use bigger triangle shapes as well like I did on my realistic head:

The size really varies for personal taste on what suits you better. :3

I'd suggest the same way as explained in some earlier comments! I actually have a similar hairstyle for a commission and will be posting a new tutorial with that example. :3 But basically you'll just want to sew two triangles (on a larger scale) and layer from bottom to top~

Hello! I am currently making a character who has a very spikey mane and I think something like this would work absolutley perfect! I was just wondering if there was a more stable way of piecing them together instead of hot gluing them or if you maybe had some tips on doing something like this on such a large scale? Thank you so much for any feed back, it is much appreciated! c:

As mentioned in a previous comment I sew them together now, this is really outdated~ You'd just sew each piece to the head, starting from the bottom and then sew the layers over it~

ahh for the sewing part ? of the hair to the head , did you just sew it on the head ? wouldnt that leave seams ? ;o ; or is there another way ??

Yeah I sewed it~ I sew the bottom/lower pieces first, then layer the higher ones ontop so you don't see the bottom ones seams. :3 I really need to re-make this tutorial aha ;v;

If you don't want the hair to flap up, you can sew the tips to the base. :3

Nice tutorial! I have a question tho. ;v;
gloomy-butt.deviantart.com/art… (The ref is outdated but I don't have any recent pics of him to the side) How would you go about making a slicked back look and then have it flair out like the hair shown on the ref? It would look similar to this if on a human 4.bp.blogspot.com/-9-cs6eHDMFE…

One way to do it is use different fur lengths, otherwise just shave it where you want it shorter. :3

How would one go about making streaks in fursuit fur? Such as white?

You can either do the base color, then on 1-4 rows you can do the white then continue with the base colors, or you can do it all white and airbrush the rest around it. c:

How would I be able to make my character's hair? I was thinking of three separate pieces.

I think the best way would be just cutting out one large piece. The sideview being the pattern for your hair, you cut just one side, flip the pattern and cut out the otherside, sew it inside out and then flip plus stuff it~ After that you'd need to sew it onto the head. c:

This is an interesting tutorial, I may attempt this for styling hair for a Head I wanna eventually make in the near/distant future of a concept I made for Elsa from Disney's "Frozen" since I randomly made her into a Snow Leopard lol and planning to try and make faux fur hair for her head, especially the long braid since the version I'm gonna do is the Snow Queen version.

For the braid you can use long hair wefts and make it easier for yourself. Or you can cut 3 long fur strips, fold them double and sew and then braid them together. :3 Sounds like a cute fursuit idea though!

I did the strips of faux fur for a braid on my own personal head's refurbish and its the plan for the Elsa one, just w/shorter faux fur XD Since the faux fur I used for the refurbish was 3 year old Distinctive Fabric faux fur I had from the first time I made my head

I'm sorry, I didn't fully understand the part of glueing them together, do we glue the first bit on the fur and attatch the next bit but sticking it down on the side with no fur?
I really love how you've done thing for the hair on your fursuit, it's a lot cheaper than attatching a cosplay wig which was my first plan, Thank You!! (Plus the fursuit head I'm currently working on of my fursona, there hair is spikey, so this is very helpful, Thank you again!!) c:

No problem! Though the suit pictures from here are quite outdated and no longer look like this. >w<
And as for the gluing, you glue the top rim part where the fur starts going down, then you take the next piece and overlap it halfway and press down. :3

Ok thanks for replying! :) checked out the info on the page and I would definately like you to do a suit for me, it isn't exactly a fur suit, more just a felt suit I believe, I have a few pictures giving multiple angles. Please note the pictures are not mine, I found them posted on tumblr and when I went to check out the person's page the page I guess had been deleted. so if there is a problem with that please let me know. P.S. Please tell me exactly how you would like me to send the photoes btw, im not too used to deviantart so im not too sure how to send image files over it, thanks :p

Yeah I can do it fully fleece :3 For just the head the quote would be 400$ since it's just one color basically but has the different parts I need to create more pattern for. >w<
