Comic Character 1: Aria Lakatos

Character concepts for the webcomic.

Up first... of course, our main character! Say hello, newcomers and veterans, to the gypsy heroine Aria Lakatos.

I've always liked this design for her, simple enough to do over and over again, but just complex enough to be iconic and memorable. Really, the biggest pain to draw for her is her sword and scabbard hanging from her hip below the hip scarf... that is always a tad clustered and if I'm not careful it causes problem. Her sword, Rapture, is also a bit complex in it's design, but I doubt I'll ever change it. One little detail I added was on the bottom of her left sole, as you can see what's supposed to be dirt on her foot. I like that touch... makes her seem more real, rather than an untarnished beauty.

Anyway, I'll be posting more sketches of characters for the comic as time goes on, and hopefully some backgrounds as well... if I can ever muster the courage to draw them...
