Since You've Been Gone

Well i have to say i am overwhelmed at the responce i DIDN'T have for my last journal entry, nice to know i'm loved here 0_o. Oh well... Anyway i've decided to try my best to update my DA account every so often especially since i've gotten a bit more inspiration recently as well as a few more photo in my collection. Also i need something to help take my mind off issues and what better way to do this than photography :)

Recently i've had a well known problem i'm sure alot of people can relate to. My external hard drive (with high resolution backups of my photos) decided to kill itself and so i lost alot of memories and good photos with that :(. HOWEVER all is not lost with the fact that i managed to recover about 80% of them with thanks to CD backups, Deviant Art and my laptop. Some arn't as high quality as they used to be but atleast i have a copy of them. This goes to show how shitty technology can be and how important it is to backup work several different ways ;)

In other news i've recently from a 5 day holiday at Center Parcs in Longleat, where i had a very enjoyable time :) I did all sorts of activities i'll probably never experience again such as Skuba Diving, Abseiling and Fencing. Not to mention a nice trip into Longleat Safari Park where i got some wonderful animal shots! Definatly a worthy place for people to visit...

You can go your own way!

Its been such a long time since i last updated and since its a new year i should of really done something sooner. But people have things to do so do i. None the less here's a very belated Happy New Year to all of you on my lists.

Now time for the update...

Photography has taken a bit of back burner atm but it's still trickleing out as and when i can get some new shots. Infact i'll be departing to Center Parcs at Longleat as of the 16th Feb, so that should give me a very nice selection of photo opportunities. Also if some of you have noticed i'm trying to branch out into other mediums including a big of Digital art and graphics which is also a good break from photography every now and then.

The main bit of news i need to inform you all about is that as some of you know i've been undergoing treatment for cancer quite a while and thus it has now taken another step recently. I've been diagnosed about 5 times now over nearly 5 years (yes its really been that long) and the other day i talked with my consultant about my next set of treatment choices, i won't bore you with the details. But as a result i will most likely not be able to update as much as i have been. Because of this i'll be letting my Subscription run out this year and concentrate on more pressing issues... I won't dissapear altogether but things will be on "Silent Running" until further notice.

Its been good to meet all of you on my watch list, you've all mean so must to me in so many different ways. A Special Mentions though goes to :iconkimatsu: :iconladyepona: :iconscellanis: :iconblackfrostrose: and :iconpuss--in--boots: all have inspired me and helped over the time i've been on here (Yes i know you all just so happen to be female too XD).

Dont take this entry as a morbid post cause its not i'm just letting you all know the situation, i'm remaining positive but i have to focus on other things for now.

Take Care All and Stay Positive

1 Shiny New Diploma

Yes you read correctly, i now have a shiny new Photography Diploma. I got it the other week after a shitty day in hospital having checkups and scans. It definatly brightened up my day!

Not only did i manage to pass and gain the Diploma, i passed it at Distinction level which is wonderful since thats my first Distiction i've got in education. The Highest i'd previously had was a Merit and that was for my Business Studies GNVQ.

With that now added to my CV i'm on the prowl for my next course, thing is i don't know where to aim for. Whether i should go for a higher level Photography Qualification or get a diploma in another area which i'm good at. I'd probably end up going for the former rather than latter...

In other news:

I've been doing alot of creative work using other mediums such as script writing and filming. I originally did a film for JimmyTeensTV about 3 years ago to show what life was like on the Adult Cancer Patients Ward, quite a morbid film really. Now over the past 3 months i've done 2 new films! One to do with Radiotherapy and the latest to do with the "Bridge The Gap" charity walk me and my family did. We all took tonnes of photos and footage and last week i managed to finish editing it, i've now sent it off to the owners of JimmyTeens for them to put it up.

Also i'm in the process of putting together a script for a space radio series with my brother. So hopefully we can complete that soon and possible get recording shortly after ^_^

Creative Encouragement

Why is it that it seems to vary month to month how much happens to me? One month absolutly nothing happens and i try and scrape up as much info as i can in order to put together a decent Journal entry. The next month so much happens that i could almost put together an essay!

Right time to break down what's happened and to explain some of the more recent photos that i've uploaded:

- I went to the Butterfly and Wildlife Park near Wisbeach mid August and finally got myself some nice Butterfly shots to add to my portfolio. Perfect place to get some nice close up shots of some really beautiful creatures. Not just butterflies but Iguanas, birds of prey, leaf cutter ants (definatly interesting to see) and Fluffy Pigs!! lol

- Went to ladyepona writers circle and actually had a good time. Will probably take me a few sessions to get into the flow but everyone were very friendly and i didn't feel unwelcome. I'm just dredding the day i'll have to submit some of my work for people to read. lol

- I went to Sacrawell Farm Early September and managed to take some photos with ladyepona Canon EOS 450D because mine died again! I managed to take some more lovely shots and the day was lovely, considerably warmer than the last time i went in February!

- My Sister took my EOS 405D back to Currys to get the things sorted and managed to get the whole camera replaced. Mine was originally a display model, so that was probably the main reason i kept having problems. Very early version and thus has the usual flaws and bugs still in it. But all is well once again!

- Me and my family went on the "Bridge The Gap" charity walk, as team "Shine On", in order to help raise money for the TCT Addenbrookes Appeal and two other charities. The weather was perfect and it was lovely walking around Cambridge and through the many colleges on route. Hence where i got alot of the Architecture shots in my Gallery. So far my family has managed to raise over £200 which really isn't bad going.

- Finally over the past month i've been getting more into producing short films. This was originally started by JimmyTeensTV when they got me to film my time on the Adult Cancer Ward about 3 years ago. Now i've created a new up-to-date film focus around my recent radiotherapy treatment, now it seems i've caught the bug, and i've already started my next film project.

So that seems to be that for now, no doubt more will pop up in the next month or so. So keep an eye out ;)

Quick Update

Wed Aug 6, 2008, 3:52 AM
Just thought i'd update you all on some things that have been going on. It's been pretty hecktick over the past month so i've not really had chance to say too much.

Firstly i have to say my holiday to Cornwall and Devon turned out great :D Managed to take alot of great photos and spend a good 10 days relaxing and walking. It seems you don't realise how unfit you are until you walk around places like Clovelly and Lands End.
The only negative thing that happened was that my Canon EOS 450D totally locked up on day 8 of the holiday and as a result i wasn't able to take any photos with that. What really pissed me off it that it happened out of the blue with no warning signs... THANKFULLY we took my good old Fuji S9500 so i kept taking shots for the last few days :)

On the subject of my Canon i have to say that when i took it back to Currys they had to of been one of the most UNHELPFUL bunch of morons i've come across. Customer service was dire and the whole experience was just a pain in the arse. However i did send my camera off to be repaired and i got it back yesterday in full working order... so thankfully my "limb" has been returned to me finally :D Took 14 bloody days to do so though <_<

Also i would like to announce that i am in the process of putting together an event to raise money for 2 charities, Teenage Cancer Trust and the Wallace Cancer Care. There's still alot to be planned and booked but i have a date and Venue Booked. So i shall keep you all informed as and when things develop :)

Additional: I have now uploaded and added 3 new stamps... just thought i'd add that XD

5100+ and news update

Wed Jun 18, 2008, 11:57 AM
  • Listening to: The Beatles - We Can Work It Out
YAY! 5100+ page views. Not too bad since its taken 4 months to get 1000 views.

Right, new updates for you all to know:

- I bought myself a New Camera last month, a Canon EOS 450D. I am over the moon with the camera since its my first DSLR camera AND it has detatchable lenses! After seeing what Canon cameras can do and the quality they can produce it won me over compared to the Nikon equivilants. Don't get me wrong Nikon are good cameras, but so are Canon :P

So as you can guess, all photos will now be taken using my new EOS 450D. It's standard resolution proportions are slightly wider than my older Fuji cameras. Scaled down its now 1152 x 768 instead of 1024 x 768. Which is fair enough, most my shots will be backed up in  RAW High Resolution anyway.

- At the start of this month i managed to buy myself a Canon EFS IS 55 - 250mm Lense. That way i can have the option of distance shots like i did with my other cameras.

- Dispite the fact that i've had Dihorea and Sickness for about 12 days now i went to the East Of England Show on the 14th June with my friend ladyepona
Here are links to some of the pictures that i took from the event, may i suggest that you look and comment on them.

5th Photoshoot

  • Listening to: Guns N' Roses - You Could Be Mine
Yup i've now achieved my 5th with ladyepona yesterday. Please take a look at the photos, there's a nice selection been posted up in my Gallery. No doubt more will pop up in the course of time.

I have to say i am very VERY pleased with how the photoshoot went. The Weather was perfect, the timeing was great (since all the bluebells were out) and the photos turned out better then i thought they would. A Big thanks to Sari for modelling for me for over a year now ^_^

In other news alot has happened since my last Journal. I've been places and done alot of things :) Two of which i class very highly would be going to see Madness at the Royal Albert Hall and Spending the day with Mario Testino!!

For those of you who know about Fashion photography should of heard of Mario Testino. I didn't until the day was organised, so i had to do some research and found that he's one of the TOP A Class Fashion photographers :D
The day spend with him was organised by 'Dreams Come True' who were great. I spend about 6 - 7 hours in a london studio watching Mario work his magic. He was doing a front cover and inside story for Vogue Paris "June-July Edition".
I got to know his staff really well and got alot of info about his equipment as well as being able to hold the bloody great camera they use. 59 Mega Pixel! It weighed a tonne! At the end of the day i managed to get his autograph and a photo taken with him! It was just wonderful ^_^

You can see the photo in my gallery.

Finally in other news, i've made a few changes to my gallery. I've removed alot of my older photos because they really wern't that good to be honest. I've kept them on my Hard Drive but they won't see the light of day again for a long time. Also i've include two Stamps that i've made since there is very few out there supporting charities, both Clic Sargent and TCT are very close to my heart :)

My First Award

Well this last week has just been fabulous!

Last night (Friday 4th April) i went to an event in Little Abbington being held by the TCT (Teenage Cancer Trust) and JimmyTeens who help and encorage teenage cancer patients to film and express their feeling about their cancer, their treatment and what they have to go through. They are great supports and a great encoragement towards Teenages and Young adults going this troublesome illness.

As some of you may know I too am one of these young adults, i've had cancer for 4 years. Been diagnosed and re-diagnosed over this time, not been a brilliant experience but it definatly opens your eyes to life more. You also get to see how strong both adults and children are in such hard times. It really does move you.

Anyway this "Oscars" event was put together to celebrate all the films and points of views from Teenagers and Young adults. I did a film 2 years ago up on D9 at Addenbrookes hospital. What was important about my film is that i was one of the very few people my age (17 - 18) that had been treated ONLY on the Adult ward. So i gave a different point of view for alot of patients.

My Film definatly wasn't the best but i am still over the moon for being presented the "JimmyTeensTV Media Award" by none other than Christopher Biggins!

He is such a lovely man, and i made sure to get his autograph and have a nice chat with him ^_^

Well i've now finally reached 4000+ views and i have to say a big "Thank You" to everyone who has been looking at my work :D

Next thing, i've been uploading a large collection of photos i've been taking this week from bother Ferry Meadows and Banham Zoo, so please take a look and leave some comments. I have to say I'm very pleased with the outcome, i've definatly come a long way since I first started nearly 2 years ago...

As a result i think i may remove some of the uneccessary Deviations in my collection. Unless they have fairly high :+fav: or comments. I want this account to show some of my best and more professional photos i have. I'll keep all the ones i don't want in storage, there's no point in deleting them all together ;p

Anyway please take a look and in future i may post some more, i did take more then 30 odd photos you know ;)

With only 2 days left till my 21st i thought i may aswell update this journal with things to do and things to come.

I've been scanning through my archives quite a bit recently and as a result i've managed to update some of my older photos as well as add some that i forgot to put up in the first place ;p
The two Bee Photos are actually new though, taken today in an attempt to do some successful Macro Photos.

On my Stock Photo Account i have upload some more guitar photos which i managed to take the other week. So hopefully someone will like and use them. If not, then just have a look at them. I think they're pretty ^_^

Also things have been booked for the 14th - 21st March for me to go to Wales for a short holiday. Which will be pretty good, chance to take photos, relax and possibly even record it since my sister got herself a camcorder >.<

Just watch this space and there maybe some new things pop up soon

August Photoshoot

  • Listening to: Thunder - Loser (Acoustic)
  • Drinking: Water
Well it finally happened. I finally had the photoshoot, that i was telling you all about, yesterday with my friend Sari :aww:

It turned out pretty well i think, she was great (as usual) and things seemed to go pretty smoothly. Although the only real problem that we had was down to my hand shakes and the fact that i didn't use my Tripod during the first half of the shoot. As a result most of the Black Drape shots turned out blurry and that actually gutted me quite alot because those shots looked great compared to the white drape :(

Anyway, i still feel that the white drape shots turned out great, and it was good to do work in a studio environment :) So take a look at some of the shots that i've posted up and let me know any comments since i always welcome them... its the only want i can improve.

Well i thought it was about time i sorted out the watchers i have on my list since not everyone seems to watch me back...

I sorted out my Gallery the other day and moved a bunch of work to scraps and so this is the final part of the clearout. First i'd like to say sorry to some of you cause i accidently removed you from my Watch list cause i'm a stupid bugger trying to figure out how to use DA :XD:

But i think i've re-added you. If not then let me know :)

Also i've re-organised the icons used here in the footer of the journals, cause i feel some more of the people in my watch list need to be shown off. Don't worry if you're not in the list, doesn't mean i don't love you ;)

Postcard Cameos...

Well its time for a new update i think.

I bring you some bits and bobs from my archive for now since i'm still in the process of getting my photography equipment all sorted ready for my next shoot :D Which shouldn't be too long and it should be a good one too :aww:

Anyway i call the following bits of work "Postcard Cameos". Mostly due to the fact that they are generally Postcard size. But also because they are slightly larger versions of what are called cameos in the Command and Conquer Modding community.

Cameos are generally 60 x 48 pixels ingame, so the detail won't be as noticable ingame. So whenever i create a cameo i try to save the large version before i resize it... and these are some of the results. I'm not very good with the larger pictures but these arn't too bad i guess...

Well its just been over a month since i last update my Journal and i have to say a fair amount of things have been happening in real life but i won't bore with all those details, but my health has taken a "turn" needless to say...

So as a result i'm going to go about doing things alot more positivly and concentrate on developing my Photography skills when i can. It looks as though my strengths lay in some aspects of Portraiture and some natural shots. The industrial ones arn't brilliant plus i don't get as much chance to go and take those sorts of shots (living in the county and all :XD:)

I am currently looking into getting some lighting sorted for my collection of equipment. Once thats been sorted i can attempt to do some semi-professional looking shots as well as put together a stock collection for future use... fingers crossed for that.

Anyway, it's time for be to post up some shots and drawing from 2 of my friends here :aww:

The common theme for these three artists is drawings and how bloody good they are at doing it :D I've posted up 4 of my fav. drawings/sketches from each person :)
