Arcanum is a hard pony to get to know. This isn't out of conscious choice, he simply comes across as unapproachable for most people. While he can be cold and distant, if you can push past that, you will find a truly kind unicorn, patient to a fault. Arcanum can be selfless and giving, if you can get close enough. Despite this, he can still be quite a cold and blunt pony, and has surprisingly little patience for those who only see evil or mal-intent in the darker, more chaotic side of magic. If he disapproves of you or what you are doing, he will speak up about it, blunt and matter-of-factly. Yes, he does work with darker magics, yes he does neglect himself for days on end and try to survive off coffee and marshmallows, but he's doing it to help you. You did ask him to write that spell for you, after all.

Talents:
Dark Magics - If you need a potion or spell that isn't all sunshine and sparkles, Arcanum is your unicorn. It may take a while, but he will get it done. Just don't ask what ingredients went into that potion, some things are better left unknown.

History:
Arcanum was born to an earth pony mother and a unicorn father who he never had the opportunity to meet. When he was growing up, it was obvious there was always something uncanny about him, whether it be the books he seemed drawn to as a foal in school, the way he moved, or something else entirely. The strange mark his unknown father left on his appearance didn't help matter, either, from his strange, unnatural eyes, to the wicked curve of his too-large horn. Eventually, all these strange feelings seemed to have been warranted on the day he earned his cutiemark. 

One day, when he was still young, Arcanum went missing, and despite the uncanny air about him, everyone was still worried about the missing foal, and so they went looking for him. That's when they found him, bloodied and standing over the injured body of another school foal, with evidence of dark magic surrounding the two as the newly minted cutiemark showed itself on his flank. Everyone feared the worst. That was, until, the other foal woke up, unharmed, and it quickly became apparent to the more magically inclined present that Arcanum wasn't the villain of this story, he was the hero, having saved his schoolmate's life, nearly at the cost of his own.

Extra:
- Has an unrepentant sweet-tooth. Doesn't buy candy often as a result since it wouldn't last long anyways.
- Wears enchanted glasses that block out a lot of sunlight without tinting so that he can see fine during the day with how sensitive his eyes are.
