Road to Tristram by Xels034 Road to Tristram by Xels034
"It reeks of death, the fallen star must be near ..."

My abandoned attempt at a diabo fanart. I gave up on it halfway a month or two ago, but the background is showable atleast. It has it's errors, especially at full resolution, but meh, would be a waste if it would just collect dust.

I am actually quite a big fan of the game, although latley I haven't played that much sadly.

Done with Blender 2.70

Great night render.  I have troubles with these kinds of scene.  You did an awesome job!

Thanks! Yeah, natural places are hard to get right. And whenever I aim for realism it turns out heavily stylized ... buut, at least it still looks okay ^^

Personally, I got kind of a Nightmare Before Christmas vibe rather than Diablo. Which is a good thing in my case at least, since somehow Blizzard style never clicked with me.

beautiful materials you created here. You also created a really nice contrast between warm and cold colors

Thanks, I always try to have two competing color schemes in my works, though sometimes it works out better than other times ^^

Ooooo!  I'd love to hear more about how you made the path and terrain.

The path was quite fun and easy:

1) Add Cube
2) Bevel modifier (narrower edges afterwards)
3) Subsurf
4) 2xArray in x,y directions
5) Curve to dictate the way
6) Displace to roughen in up

Terrain is was also rather easy:

Lowpoly model for the rough shape (subdiv a plane 3 oder 4 times)
Subsurf+Displacement
Details in the bumpmap

The grass patches are little planes just beneath the soil, rendered as hair particles
