Mysterious heron by XD-385 Mysterious heron by XD-385
This bird caught me entirely by surprise near the south entrance of the zoo. I had never seen this kind of bird in or around the zoo before. It seems to be a Black-crowned Night-Heron. But what stumps me the most is that they are mostly nocturnal. So what was this guy doing there during the afternoon?

Awwww sooo cute.
perhaps it just can't sleep.

Or it knows people don't throw food scraps at it at night.

Well, I've seen a heron on the bridge in melbourne... it's there all the time.

That is unusual that it's awake at that time.

My mom who is somewhat of a bird expert said that it is a Black-crowned Night-Heron and it might be there during the day because the zoo has food.
