Mysterious Blade by XD-385 Mysterious Blade by XD-385
One of the chefs who works at my family's restaurant moved in across the street from me. Pretty cool guy, he is. He also kinda collects swords and such on the side. He's also the guy I got my chokuto from.

Anyway, I saw this here sword and was baffled of what design it is. I looked all over Wikipedia, but I still couldn't find a picture of a sword or dagger that matched this. And that's why I posted the picture of it here.

Does anyone know what this kind of sword is?

*UPDATE*

Thanks to my good friend :iconjuug:, it turns out that this particular sword is an Arabic Warrior Short Scimitar. And I always had a hunch it looked Arabic.

I does look like a Scimitar, the long flat edge opposite the curved blade...

It looks like a Scimitar but you keep saying that the blade is too short, how long is the blade anyway?

I didn't have a tape measure on hand. I'd say the blade is a foot at most.

I have a bizarre knife as well... My grandpa is an knife/guns maniac, so he collects interesting stuff. For one christmas, he gave me a knife with ivory handle and sheath, but also gave me a second, more... interesting knife. It was hand-forged and looked very old. It was dull, but was covered in carvings and was throughoutly steel. On each side across the handle and steath were 8 pentagrams, and on the hilt of the handle was a rose and leaves. On the blade itself was carvings of vines and leaves.

I thought it was some kind of ritual sacrifice knife or something... I tried to look for any kind of seal showing where or who it was from, but nothing...

If I can dig it up from storage, I'll take a photo of it and show you.

Sounds like a real keepsake. Take good care of it. If we ever meet, bring it along so we can compare it to my wolf knife.

I would have to agree with jugg on this one. It does look like a cross between a scimitar and a cutlass. Curved blade of a scimtar and the guard of a cutalss, cross them together and there you go. Or should I say that here it is.

The blade's shape doesn't match it very well. And those usually come with hand guards around the hilt.

true well maybe its just a random creation made by someone who one day just wanted to make a sword that looks like that.

As you can tell by the hilt, it's meant for only one hand. And the blade is quite thick for such a small sword, and is a bit heavy too. But it's still easy to swing around.

Then again if it is too short to be a Scimitar then it is a Cutlass. A similar sword but it is shorter than a Scimitar.

I said a type of cutlass. They were not in any way uniform in shape or size and depending on the maker it it would look different. As long as they served the purpose of being useful in closed quarters combat. If you want to research into arabic weaponry because the flow and design of the blade and hilt is Arabic or Middle Eastern in design. And by research I mean go to the libray or a weapons expert. Not all the answers are on the internet.

Yeah, it's no scimitar. The blade is far too short. But the overall blade design does not match a cutlass very well, which looks like a very stout saber. And you've seen my saber in my gallery before.

You weren't looking hard enough XD. I just found it. It is an Arabic Warrior Short Scimitar. Meant to be wielded by one hand and its cutting principles work on the same things as the Japanese Katana. Here's a link for you.

Yup, that's it! Although I have to say that's the shortest scimitar I've ever seen. And to be honest, I had a strong hunch it was Arabic in design. It strongly reminded me of the sword used by Aladdin in Kingdom Hearts. And it is inscribed on the blade "Pakistan", so I at first thought it was from there or India. Looks like I wasn't too far off.

Anyway, thanks!:glomp:

No problem. I knew I couldn't be wrong with its origins and the particular curve of the blade is a trademark of Scimitars. So it was a matter of looking up on different types of Scimitars and that was among the top 10 results I got back. I spent a good amount of my childhood looking up and researching bladed weapons so I know a weapon's origins and trademarks.

Also never rely on Wiki to find something out. A lot of things Wiki doesn't have or don't say plenty of other sites have the answer.

Then like I said later it may be a type of Cutlass. It's designed just like a Scimitar but just shorter. It made for tight quaters combat.

hmm. To me it doesn't really look more like a sword as it does a tribal ritual knife. I would say scimitar first, but a scimitar's a pretty common type of blade and if you can't identify it on wiki... :?

It's a Scimitar. Arabic Sword. It's not an unusual design either. It works on the same principles as the katana. Look up India swords if you want weird weapon designs.
