The Little Black River

This is the little river behind my house, Galmara. I really was interested in the way water is always alive even in the dead of winter. I shot this one with the digital contrast turned way up to get the water as black as I could. I find that, in this way, water becomes much more textural and has the illusion of great depth. I am always amazed at how water can cause calm and fear at the same time and I wanted to capture at first what seems like a peaceful scene but after some investigation seems to be a place of deadly cold and a dead river with ink black water.
I was standing in the middle of this little river to get this shot. The water made it firmly into my boots and I am sure this is the coldest water on planet earth.
