Colouring Tut Part I by wyldflowa Colouring Tut Part I by wyldflowa
<< PART II >>

Fufufuuu... it was a long time coming~~~ Sorry I went off on a big tanget with the lineart preparing - there's twenty billion tuts out there that tell you exactly the same method...

I apologise profusely for the length of this (it spans two deviations as Photoshop spazzed because the final file was something like 13000 pixels long and 700 pixels wide >_<; ) and the jpeg compression (I wanted to make it as small of a file as possible for you :3). But that compression is killing my eyes... I'll re-upload if it's a problem for anyone.

Please comment or send a note if you're unsure of anything~~~! If you don't ask you'll never know! ^_^

Please do not edit or redistribute outside of Deviantart. Thank you~~~

This tutorial and Sundae (that pwetty elf *points*) are copyright to ME.

OH! One last thing I forgot to mention! THE BURN TOOL IS EVIL! Don't use it! Your picture will just end up brown and nasty! ^^;

I was wondering, do you do anything in particular to the lineart before scanning it? I always try to scan in my work, but it always looks so... bad after it scanned in. Half of the lines were gone, the scanner practically whitewashed the page, and I was just wondering if, whenever you may have the time in your schedule, do you think you could make a tutorial for lineart and/or scanning? Yours looks so good before you started the coloring, and I'd like to know how. :3 If not, that's fine, too! I'd even appreciate it if you could perhaps point me in the direction of a proper tutorial that could help out. Also, I love your work and thanks so much for this tutorial! I know it takes a while to make them. It's very helpful. :)

I have a question, how do you get you lineart to look so smooth, (T_T) mines always looks so sketchy, it so sketchy that when I use my blur it you can still see the sketchy ness

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH! Ok I LOVE this tutorial but it's EVIL! Where did that GOD DAMN OUTLINES LAYER COME FROM!!! I can't actually use the rest of the tutorial if I can't get my lines to go over the top of the colours but I can't get the lines to be on a new layer without having all sorts of problems. I just can't work this out and I really need help and your tutorial seems to be the only one so far that makes sense but there's this one bit that I just dun get! How do you get the lines in the outlines layer? It seems so simple but everything I try doesn't work.

I didn't make this tut but I just thought I'd tell you the secret, even thought it's been almost two years since you asked. xD You set the layer with your outlines to "multiply." That easy. White is gone. ^^

*sweadrop* Your sweet. Thanks but luckily I finally found a tut that showed me how a while ago.

Ah! I'm so glad it's helped! I wasn't sure how much this would help people (as I'm more of a vector person than a soft-shading person) so it's good good to hear someone get some use from it. ^_^

Nyah~ I wuv him, his name's Sundae~ Glad you like him too! ^o^

This is a great tutorial, but I have one question: How do you use/change pressure sensitivity in Photoshop? I've been clicking around forever and I can't figure out for the life of me. T_T

what? david bowie rocks! what are you talking about?;p

MAN your coloring style is different XD. ive really gotta get out and try some of these coloring styles.
and ive NEVER understood what the different layer types were, havnt messed with em either. so the multiply just makes all the white parts go away... or what? *is confused XD* lol.
wyldflowa Featured By Owner Aug 17, 2005  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Yeah but David Bowie then Blink182 then Aqua... @m@; They all rock separately but when you listen to themall together it get's a bit mad~

I don't really understand the different layers! They just make it all look quite fun and coool sometimes. XD I wish I'd known about multiply layers long long ago (yes, they do make all the white bits go away sorta) - they make life so much easier~~~
isays Featured By Owner Aug 17, 2005
"go away sorta" define 'sorta' lol. it could be really handy. as it is now, i just scan in my stuff, and then ink it in photoshop using my tablet. then i work on the stuff. i use sooooooooooo many layers. the peice thats my featured (as of aug 17) is like 30 layers lol.

im not a big blink fan. what can i say?
you should listen to splashdown! i tell you, they are AWESOME. ive only met one person who didnt like them, and he is just an idiot who likes screamo. so he doesnt count;p.
