Finished another Hunter - an F6A this time from 4 Sqn - I like the black and orange markings they use - very dramatic!
Added a Lightning F2 of 19 Squadron.

Added another F2, this time a 'blue-tail' from 92 Squadron...
FGA 71 - Chilean Air Force 9 Grupo finished :)

F4 - Netherlands done!
Hunter F1 nearly finished, and the 'variations' don't look too difficult either, so I should be able to get a few different countries done in the next few days :)

F1 completed!
Just toying around with mouse mats, hoping something will sell one day ;)
I'm having some fun finding out about these now - there were some VERY colourful F1s and F1As around, so expect more soon...
Just taking a look at the early Lightnings, they were a bit better looking than the later ones with the large tail and fuel tank.  There were quite a few bright colour schemes around on some squadrons too..  Might do some more of these later, but I'm thinking of another new project already!  A Hawker Hunter maybe...

Javelin Variations

Tue Apr 3, 2007, 10:22 AM
With many versions produced in a couple of years, I have done a quick guide to the Javelin

Gloster Javelin Type Variations

First off, FAW stands for Fighter All Weather - This refers to the fact that the Javelin had radar and could fly and fight in all weathers and visibility.

The progress of the various versions was extremely rapid, and several types were upgraded to newer versions before they had even left the factory!

The identification is as follows:  (thanks to the Thunder and Lightnings site for the info here)

F.A.W. 1 - Long nose.  No windscreen wiper.  No pylons.  Sapphire Sa6 engines.  No vortex plates on wing.  No fuselage intake.

F.A.W. 2 - Short nose.  No windscreen wiper.  No pylons.  Sapphire Sa6 engines.  Vortex plates on wing.  No fuselage intake.

T.3          - Long nose.  No windscreen wiper.  No pylons.  Sapphire Sa6 engines.  Vortex plates on wing.  No fuselage intake.

F.A.W. 4 - Long nose.  No windscreen wiper.  No pylons.  Sapphire Sa6 engines.  Vortex plates on wing.  No fuselage intake.

F.A.W. 5 - Long nose.  Windscreen wiper.  No pylons.  Sapphire Sa6 engines.  Vortex plates on wing.  No fuselage intake.

F.A.W. 6 - Short nose.  Windscreen wiper.  No pylons.  Sapphire Sa6 engines.  Vortex plates on wing.  No fuselage intake.

F.A.W. 7 - Long nose.  No windscreen wiper.  4 x Pylons.  Sapphire Sa7 engines.  Vortex plates on wing.  No fuselage intake.

F.A.W. 8 - Short nose.  No windscreen wiper.  4 x Pylons.  Sapphire Sa7R engines.  Extra Vortex plates on wing.  Fuselage intake.

F.A.W. 9 - Long nose.  No windscreen wiper.  4 x Pylons.  Sapphire Sa7R engines.  Extra Vortex plates on wing.  Fuselage intake.

The 9R was the same as the 9, but had a massive, and extremely ugly refuelling probe

The engine changes between the 6, 7, and 8 are quite noticeable with the shape of the exhausts changing completely, and extended pipes installed for the afterburners on the 8 and 9.

This will probably cause confusion...
