You Say You're Going To Leave.
Sister, sister.
Sitting in the park,
Listening to her blood rush,
Plucking at her heart.
Think about all the wrongs
You've been justified.
Sister, sister.
The guilt's eating you alive.

i've left myself
you know what's funny?
they tell me to keep going,
to not give up,
as if i haven't listened
to all of the sad songs
ten times over
in the dead of chilled starless nights.
as if i haven't written
love on a thousand burning pages,
only to watch the misty remnants
die out in harsh electric streetlight.
as if the festering dejected wounds
i've left myself
would ever heal.
but the sun still rises.
nights slow burn into days.
days achromatise into nights.
the trains still pass by my window lazily
and nothing really changes.
the moon is my friend.
i talk to it in the rain.
tell it all of my secrets.
my hopes and dreams.
and i keep hoping it will talk back to me
instead of staring back listlessly.
and when i get too lonely,
during the daytime
when the skies are clear,
or at best, overcast,
i walk the train tracks.
it is nice to be
on the railways,
away from prying eyes,
yours and mine.
to be alone,
outside of town,
centralising words,
a concurrent schema
in my mind.
i write names

I once sat in an orphanage, pouring make-believe tea. The little girl I was playing with told me to add milk and sugela. I suppose I should have corrected her; should have told her that I would stir in the sugar and ignored the isiZulu word. The orphanage teaches the children to speak English, because English speaking children have a much better chance of finding new parents. I suppose I should have done that, but I couldn't bring myself to take away one of the last few words of her mother tongue. I put usugela into the tea.
I've visited homes that I wouldn't call houses. I stood outside an abandoned garage with a broken door. A young man – only a teenager, really – bent double to walk inside. Sewage-ridden water from the street seeped into the dank, dirty room. It was shelter of a kind; a place to keep things and a place to sleep. The boy cheerfully told us that the owner of the garage up the road allowed him to use the customers' bathroom. He explained how he

Flesh and Blood
Sometimes I wish,
I could wake at one in the morning;
a cold sweat gathering at my brows,
to find my reality a dream.

Driving down main street,
the pungent aroma of second hand smoke:
tar, and carbon monoxide masking
the fresh air of a cool breeze,
lingering in the atmosphere surrounding.
I can only dream of lungs,
full of the gift created by purity;
cleanliness in a wretched reality.

He mumbles the lyrics of "Benny and the Jets",
lips unable to separate,
except for the rare ash of his cigarette
through the drivers window.
I try to escape this dismal view--
of a reality that has become too revolting to exist for;
sitting in a tin can,
rolling down an intersection.

Sometimes I curse the idea of memory,
or the stark realization;
I was created by my own worst enemy.

Carys and Emma- Friends Pt. 2
"And here we have the best room! It's my room!" Emma flicked on a light switch, revealing a fairly clean room with books scattered about in corners and on her bed.
"Cool! So what are we gonna do?" Victoria was bouncing on the balls of her feet, clearly excited to be here with Emma and Carys.
"I know! Let's play pretend!"
Emma and Victoria looked at Carys, blinking slightly before nodding vehemently in agreement.
"Okay," the six year old paused, frowning to herself as she racked her brain for ideas. "The floor is lava, guys!"
The trio immediately ran to jump onto furniture, Emma flopped on her bed, Carys sitting on Emma's toybox, and Victoria perched on the dresser.
"Oh no!" Emma cried, pointing to a stuffed animal on the floor. "He's gonna die!"
"I'll risk it," Carys offered. "I have lava-proof shoes!" With that, she jumped off the toybox and rushed towards the stuffed animal, scooping it up and holding it close to her body. "S'okay now, little buddy! You're safe now!"
"Carys, look out

-Learren- Fear?
A shrill shriek filled the air in the Clarke household, and Darren looked up from the piano, worry immediately filling his eyes. He stood and went into the kitchen only to find his wife on the counter, her eyes wide and frightened, her face having lost all color.
"Leah, what is it?"
"Get. It. Out. Of. My. Kitchen," she hissed, shrinking back further on the countertop.
"Get what out, babe?" He looked around, not seeing anything that could have frightened his fearless Leah-Lee so badly.
"Oh, for God's sake. It's in the corner!" Darren turned to where she was pointing, walking over and kneeling before bursting into laughter. "It's not funny!"
"Leah… dear… it's a mouse."
"Exactly!! Get it out of here! God knows what kinds of diseases it's carryin'!" He gently picked it up, cupping it in his hands so it couldn't jump to its death, and walked over to his wife, a smirk playing around the edges of his mouth. "What are you doing??"

Philena: Dirty
I stand in the shower,
scrub furiously at my pink skin.
It is burned from the intensity
of the hot water.
I have scrubbed myself raw,
but no matter what I do
I can still smell him.
I escaped him,
why won't he leave?

I still feel so dirty.

I Hate Phones (And Other Crap)
We're reading To Kill A Mockingbird in class and I've been called on to read and while I can read it aloud perfectly fine all by myself in my room, I bite my lip. I pause and I swallow a couple times and my hands get all hot and sweaty. My nickname Streetlight comes in handy here and my cheeks flush bright red and my breath comes a lot less easily. I put it off for as long as I can, but I start reading before my teacher thinks I didn't hear her. Everyone looks back at me for a second as I stutter to a start and then turns back around, but it feels like they're still staring at me. My sentences come out a little choppy, but it works out okay because now she's said it's time to "Popcorn" read, so I finish the couple of sentences I had to read and pass it on to someone else. No one calls on me after that.
I'm in Lit class again and now we've finished our poetry projects and she tells us we're to memorize them and read them aloud, speaking to the audience. I've memorized it just fine,

Musing: Inches and Continents
The song is on repeat. I look at the clock and see it reading 11:55 and do the math in my head. It's almost automatic now. I know that ten o'clock here is six o'clock there. The sun's probably up by now, if you can see it through the clouds. Scottish weather is like what people think Washington is like. We actually only have rain about 65% of the time while they have it about 85-90% of the time. It's kinda funny 'cause right now we're havin' a heat wave and Scotland, or at least Glasgow, has rain.
It's now 11:58 and I've spent three minutes on that last paragraph. Now the song's repeating again and I can't think of how to phrase anything better than Simple Plan did in Jet Lag, or Bruno Mars did in Long Distance. It's impossible, ya know? And it's crazy. To fall for someone so completely when they're 4,000+ miles away from you. All I can think about right now is holding his hand while walking down the street to get sushi. Cuddling on the couch while watching an anime or Nosferatu or a c

Poem: Inches and Continents
I was almost hit by a car the other day.
If you'd taken one more step,
you'd have been squashed by a bus.
We told each other and we laughed,
but I can't stop going back to it.
I can't lose you before I even get to hold you.
Readers, unless you've been in a long-
distance. You don't get it. I'm sorry,
you don't.
Long distance is the most difficult thing.
Being so far away is so painful...
it's almost physical.
All I can think about right now is
holding hands
dancing around the kitchen...
and looking like fools
falling asleep together.
All I can think about right now is
instead of

Blue Eyes
Her hands tremble, running through her hair in an anxious gesture. The alien four walls around her seem to be pressing closer the longer she stays here; compressing all of the echos of words, all of her stray thoughts, all of her fear into her tiny little bubble.
Her icy calm exterior begins to crack where the warmth of little fingertips traces. The signs of it melting trickle down her face in tiny salt water streams.
His wide blue eyes stare up at her, his hands the size of her pointer finger reaching out for her face. She kisses him on his forehead... pulling back in time to see his eyes close and feel his hand flop back to his body, limp.
She awakes in bed, the clock reads 2AM, and a different pair of blue eyes looks at her with concern as she stands up, knowing there will be no more sleep tonight.
She drives out to the grave and places yet another yellow flower on the stone, reading the name and dates she knows by heart:

Strength Essay #2
I’m zealous about many (perhaps too many) activities, a couple of which are academic, many which are personal and one or two that are extracurricular that may or may not become part of my future career. Choir, writing, and baking are three of the many.
Within my schedule for the day, I have quite a few technical classes that I must take in order to graduate, but I have a couple classes that are not so technical and are in there, in anybody else’s opinion, so I can relax. One of those is choir and I can assure you while it is rather relaxing for me, there is no time in the hour that we are given for us to sit down, kick back, and sip some iced tea. Not that that is what I was looking for when I chose to take the class this year nor any other year since my first year of middle school. One of my greatest passions is singing especially if I have a large group of like-minded people behind me. I auditioned my eighth grade year for Bella Voce, even though I knew freshmen almost ne

A Lock That's Lost Its Key
A whole different world-
a world with layers and chambers.
Things swirl around-
blue and purple smoke,
pink and red sweetness,
yellow and green tartness
rainbows of confusion
and blackness deeper than space.
There is no key to this world,
you have been locked out-
for fear you will destroy it,
and release the blackness into all of it-
all the layers,
all the chambers.
If you want in, you must fight-
a long, tiring struggle for one world.
I don't believe it's worth it-
there are many wonderful chambers,
but one wrong step, and you can fall,
and once you fall into the blackness,
it's another struggle out,
and you will destroy the world,
and you will run.
This lock that's lost its key would stay this way,
and my heart would never let anyone in again.
(But if you are gentle making your way into the world,
the world will not let you go,
you'll be stuck there,
and my heart will finally be filled)

Heroes and Victims
Over the Hills and Far Away,
Alyssa Lies to her friends,
says the bruise is from a game:
she was the Hero with all the Courage,
her younger brother the victim.
Her friends,
with their little-kid imagination,
ask what it feels like to fly.
Her answer is that it feels Much Like Falling,
but Better because you're saving someone.
That night In The Dark though,
she wishes she could be Anywhere But Here,
and bring her brother with her,
so they both could be Fully Alive
and not have to say I'm Sorry for things they didn't do.
Alyssa stayed,
and grew up,
Fly(ing) Away with her brother
on her Broken Wings
and becoming a Penholder,
creating Beauty From Pain.

My ID photo is at least a year old, but it's one of my few favorite photos of myself.

Love Emilie Autumn. Lost my Hot Topic job 'cause the season ended, but gained a job at DQ which, while being a fast food place, is also a franchise... which means that my location has a franchise owner. She's pretty freaking awesome and the management doesn't feel like management and work isn't hell right now, so I'm calling that plus. My shop has now been open for almost a year! I have 16 listings now including a few different soap sizes, shave soap, beard oils, unisex fragrances, bath tea sachets, shower gel, salt-n-sugar scrubs and many more. I still want to make so much more, but it's all about the funds, so for now 16 items (and pretty much any of them are customizable, just ask) will have to be enough.

Current Residence: Washington
Favourite genre of music: Rock
Favourite photographer: I know too many of you! No favorite!
Favourite style of art: Literature, and photography
Wallpaper of choice: Abstract art, cats (namely Jinxx, my furbaby, or Salem from Sabrina the Teenage Witch), and anything else that interests me
Favourite cartoon character: Either Popeye or Salem, if he counts, or Zero from Nightmare Before Christmas (technically not a cartoon, but he is, ya know, not alive)
Personal Quote: "If the reader doesn't feel what the narrator feels, the writer has failed."
