Welcome to World of Avani!

World of Avani is an RPG campaign that uses the D&D 3.5 system. Ran by marie-berry, we host two games on every other week at the following times:

Friday Night Session • 9 PM - 1 AM
Sunday Afternoon Session • 1 PM - 5 PM

All times are in Eastern Standard Time (USA). Occasionally (okay, more than occasionally) we will go into overtime if all of the members agree they would like to continue playing. That's a pretty good sign, right?

We always welcome new players, old pros and inexperienced alike, so long as you are mature, mostly sane and willing to play well with others.

Hi again guys!

First of all: I know I haven't actually responded to your comments on the previous journal, but I swear I read all of them. I just haven't had time/have been too braindead to come up with a coherent response.

Secondly: YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME, THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING. <3 I love you guys. You guys are the reason I want Avani to continue.

So, I've been mulling over possible solutions for our time-slot problem. These are the potentials I've come up with so far:

I've had a wee bit of experience setting up forums before, and half of the roleplay is already in play-by-post format.

The major problem is that play-by-posts usually move at the speed of a sneaky fart. My solution for this? Time-sensitive threads. If a thread is started, everyone has 1 week (maybe 2 weeks, we'll figure it out) to participate in it, then it's closed and we fast forward to the next scene. If you don't post? Not a big deal. We can figure out what happened in an OOC chat.

I've also set up public die-rollers before--it would be on a separate website, it's very reliable, free, and everyone in Avani could see what you rolled, so integrity is never called into question.

The final problem: Combat. Combat can take forever in a forum set up. Maybe, when it's time for combat, we could all get on AIM or roll20 for a couple hours to just play out the combat. Maybe instead of having combat every session, we could have combats about once or twice a week?

Another idea that Sei'ne had was potentially changing Avani to a more informal roleplay group. If he or I have time to DM, we pop on AIM and see who's on, then run an adventure for them. On one hand, this would make us less burdened because we would only pop up with an adventure when we were prepared and have time, but I wonder what it would do for the continuity of the storyline.

Does anyone else have any suggestions?

I am very confused. Why is game stuff continuing in the forum? I only found the discussion today.

I made an announcement about this last week. The forums are open for roleplaying--that's why I wanted to promote you to contributor. We had a conversation about it, remember? (I only ask b/c I remember you not remembering telling me something from that conversation earlier... gosh, now THAT'S confusing.) In any case, you left a comment on it. :]

Anyway, it's not really ABSOLUTELY essential stuff and you totally don't have to participate if you don't want to or don't have the time. It's more flavor/character developmenty/free form-y kind of RP. I sometimes use it to explain or do things I don't think we'd necessarily have time to do in a session. (For example if we carried out every conversation in-session instead of on the forums, we'd never get anything done, waiting for turn order and what not, you know?)

But yeah, anything important that happens in the forums will be summed up in a synopsis. I'm still working on Sunday's because we haven't updated it for two weeks so it's kind of a hamdangler, but I'm working on it now. D:

Oh I knew that there was going to be stuff in the forums, I just never got the initial message that the thread had started so I was confused when I saw it today. lol.

Ok, good, I was hoping to see a synopsis! Yay!

LOL Oops! Should I make an announcement next time? Would that help? B/c I totally can keep a separate journal entry to announce when new threads start. That's a pretty good idea.

Yes! Here, let me give you one that isn't so Teal Deer because this will be a while:
Basically, as you guys were walking back from the lady's place after stealing the map, everyone went shopping for new supplies to get the heck out of Electrum City. While they were in the stables preparing for the next journey, they heard a noise--it sounded like some kids messing with a cat, and it was yowling. Cory went to go investigate, only to find a young boy, maybe 14 or 15, on the roof who fired a net gun at her, entangling her in a net.

More boys appeared and began to attack the group with those same net guns, while their leader sneaked around the side of the stable to challenge Kierevar. There, the two went toe-to-toe. Seamus tried to help Kier by throwing another barrel, but the boy's leader heard him sneak up and shanked him (for nearly half of Seamus' hp in one blow) to send a message to Kier that their fight was strictly one-on-one. Meanwhile, the boy began to taunt Kier, and the group heard things about Kier's unsavory past: He may have burned down an orphanage, and he may be a murderer. The boy then demanded the map.

Meanwhile, the group struggled with the remaining boys, who proved to be almost too much for them. As Coriander bested one boy, he drank a potion and began to fly away--Cory could have easily killed him, but spared him since he was just a kid.

Another boy managed to bag Seamus in a net, which tipped off the boy's leader as to who had the map. Another tried to fly away with bagged!Seamus. But the party flew into action and Seamus managed to get free, just in time for Cory to accidentally mortally wound another boy. By then, the boys knew they were outnumbered. Collecting their wounded, they flew away, but not before Renna pegged several of them with their arrows, and I think Seamus hit the leader with a barrel.

After that, the group decided to get the heck out of Electrum City as quickly as possible, which they did. Along the way, as you'll see in the forum, they ran into a wandering healer who has offered his services. Kier does not like the healer's dog.

Other things:
+ The group isn't sure what the leader of the boys was. He was clearly humanoid, but had white hair and dark skin, and mismatched eyes. He's not dark enough to be a drow, nor are his ears pointed.

+ Renna said if the boys killed her she would haunt them until the day they die. "You're going to be haunting me for a really long time lady..." one of the boys said, so the group wonders if the boys are perhaps immortal in some way.

:D I hope that helps!
