Join us now, oh daughter fair
With pale skin and winter-hair.
Leave the dead-dry land of feet
And come where the water is cool and deep.
We are grasses to your lily-flower
Forever dancing in shady bowers.
Oh, please join us, water-maid!
Exchange a tail for those shaky legs.
Mortals live for but a day
While we have centuries to have our say.
Join us, sweet sister, in the cool of the deep
Where tendrils and serpents in darkness sleep.
Forsake that lover who toils in dirt
His heart will heal and you'll never be hurt.
For should he travel to the pool so sweet
With waters and currents curious and deep
Let you entice him further on down
He's yours forever if you make him drown.
So join us, oh join us, and be not alone!
There is no anguish in the heart of a stone.
Be smooth and lovely as the water-smoothed rocks
And always be steadfast during life's shocks.
Be with us forever, oh sister so fair
With watery skin and wintery hair.

Lonely - Mermaid TG
She breathed in the water, concentrating on the feel of it as it filled her lungs, and breathed out again, focusing on how it flattened her lungs. She flipped a fin to feel its movement beneath her, momentarily enjoying the sinuous sensation of her muscles beneath the skin. She turned her head rapidly to feel the movement of her hair as it moved across the water; and then she floated, simply enjoying the water's currents as it moved across her body, carrying her lightly along. She was just that bored. Stretching her arms behind her back, she cracked the joints of her fingers as she wiggled the tail again. Shoving her tail against the current

The very same promises that bound you to the silver docks of loneliness where you sat, hands tied behind your back As seagulls and swans dashed and danced in the grey wind. I remember finding you here, Naked legs, watery eyes, and quivering lips Whispering the names of past and future lovers, telling a tale as sharp as the bible but as short as the four letter word. I hate who we've become. I hate the polite Calm after the storm It makes me wish we were still fighting. Because at least there was emotion There. At least we both Still Cared. And now… What is this? We are Just getting along, Silently Co-existing. Like strangers.

There's a character in my head from a story I'm thinking of writing. Reading this I feel kind of freaked out. It fits absolutely seamlessly with the image in my head right down to the white hair. But hey great minds think alike? Great job it's a beautiful peice of writing. I am interested in what picture inspired it if its not a bother.

Thanks! There should be a link somewhere in the early comments that leads to the picture. Strong chance I botched it, though.....

Oh my gosh! I am speechless. This is beautiful! Hey, there is a community in LJ where we post poems we like. Most poems are by knows poets but I would like to post this to the community. Would you have a problem?

btw - what's LJ? I'm from Alaska, so I haven't heard of that before.

it's Livejournal for short. Unfortunately the community I am part of accepts only from published poets so I can't post it there. If I find another community where they allow unpublished works, I most certainly will post yours!

Alaska huh? It must be pretty cold up there, right? But very adventurous too!

Books only, huh? Shucks. I've been published for my newspaper articles....haha.

Alaska's not cold to me, but thats because I grew up here. Adventurous? I guess so. I did see over 20 moose this past weekend, and came within 10 ft of a couple caribou.

holy crap fabulous. I don't usually like ab endrhymes, but this is tubular.

a couple suggestions: mortals live for but a day/ while we have centuries to have our say. ... the two haves sound funny in the same line.
There is no anguish in the heart of a stone./ Be smooth and lovely as the water-smoothed rocks
- it might just be a style thing but objectifying the nouns with 'the' before both of them makes them very heavy - literal objects over an idea they may evoke. take out/alter one of those the's.

honestly, here's critiques because I care. Don't Stop.

This is so completely believable, and I can imagine that this is exactly what they'd say.
