Word-Smiths is not an exclusive group. We do, however, want your best work. We want poetry and prose that says something -- tells a story; evokes a mood or memory; stirs an emotion; takes readers out of themselves. Please read the guidelines for joining and submitting before submitting to the group. To join, you need at least three pieces of literature in your gallery.Submissions are limited to three per week.
Only members of the group may submit work. Please submit to the appropriate folder, and please don't submit to Featured. Please don't submit PDFs; many people, including some of the group admins, can't read them. We also don't accept journals.Poetry:
We look for a number of things when reviewing poetry. Meter, metaphor, alliteration, personification, and/or rhyme, for example, can all be used to aid effective delivery, interpretation, and readability and can heighten sheer reading pleasure. Fixed form in particular should have a consistent rhythm, where appropriate, and free verse should flow easily. Imagery can add to a piece, and we do look for it, especially when used in unusual ways.Prose:
We accept work in most genres, though not erotica or fanfiction. With prose, especially, it's important to edit your work for content, grammar, punctuation, and format. Declines:
If your work is declined, we are not obligated to give you a reason. We have attempted that in the past with nasty and negative results.
We will not be accepting works that include, allude, or are in favor of violence, abuse in any form, and minor related illegal activities. If you are unsure of anything surrounding this, please do not hesitate to send us a note. We'd be happy to assist. Please note that this list is not exhaustive. It is simply intended as a guideline.
