Hey, Hooligans! I know I've not been on DA much lately. Let me know how you're doing. What projects are you working on? Life changes? Victories? Setbacks?

I got all the formatting on my 2nd book done, finally! It was slowed down a lot because I wrote this foreword bout my personal evolution from being afraid of making political comedy to embracing it this past year, and tying that together with the rise of alt-right racism or white supremacy since 2001. It was a lot of hard work researching things like the Charlottesville riot, the Dylann Roof church shooting, etc... and even harder writing comedy around all that! :faint: But I'm glad I did it. It made the foreword a lot better, and it gave me a much clearer understanding of recent history.

My friend Mizz-Swagnificent made this awesome gift art from an old comic strip of mine from back in 2012!

:new: My friend Lizzy opened up some emergency commissions to get some convention supplies she needs. Check it out!

The keyboard on my laptop is disintegrating and I'll have to replace it (the keyboard or the laptop, not sure which) soon.

That's all I've got for now. I'm just waiting on my books to come in to ship out to my Kickstarter backers and catching up on my social media that I've not been on much lately.

So what are you doing? :D

I have lots of sources of inspiration, my top three being the Daily Show's John Stewart, Adam Conover and George Carlin. Others include Gary Larson, Warner Brothers cartoons, public radio and cognitive science. I'm always looking for new material and challenging new projects.

And now I'll leave you with one of my favorite quotes from Bob Dylan: "any man not busy being born is busy dying."

Hey, Hooligans! I neglected to post an update about this on Thursday. Oops! The Kickstarter campaign funded and hit its first stretch goal at the same time! :D

But I also have some other cool news! Yesterday, Scott Rosenberg backed the project!

Scott's an NYT best-selling author, former VP of Marvel and Chairman of  Platinum Studios (Cowboys & Aliens, Hero by Night, I Was Kidnapped By Lesbian Pirates From Outer Space). But what you may know best from his work is producing the comic series Men in Black from Malibu Comics, which he signed to the movie deal before selling Malibu to Marvel.

That's so flattering! :D

In the hours since I published the Kickstarter update about Scott backing the project, we picked up a couple more backers and are just $8 from our 2nd stretch goal! So I published another update to let all the backers know that anyone who pledged at $4 or more can upgrade to the next level to put us over that next stretch goal so that all the $12+ backers will get not just one Kickstarter exclusive print, but all three!

You've only got 3 DAYS left to get these cool rewards! If you get one of the books, you're getting it at regular price, and all three exclusive prints are FREE! And if you get both books, you also get a free custom art-card caricature! :la:

The final exclusive print is my favorite, this tribute to the very first issue of Captain America, with our Pigasus standing in for Cap, socking old Adolf on the jaw!

This is awesome! It's kind of weird because I didn't expect to need stretch goals at all, but now it looks like I need to think up a fourth stretch goal, since it looks like we're likely to hit the first three. But it's so cool to have this project exceed all my expectations!

Last 3 days to get in on the action! :la:

Keep on rockin' it, Hooligans!

Captain America Tribute
Hey, Hooligans! This is day 5 of our Kickstarter and we're already 2/3rds funded!

Yesterday I finished up the 2nd of two images I'm presenting for backers to vote on what they'd like for the Kickstarter exclusive print & desktop wallpaper. The first is a parody of the Rosie Riveter poster with Grumpy Cat. This 2nd one is a tribute to the very first issue of Captain America, on the cover of which, Cap punches Hitler. It's some interesting history, and you can read more about that in the 2nd update on the Kickstarter.

Have an awesome weekend!

- Sam

Hey, Hooligans! Great news! :D

I relaunched our Kickstarter this morning and we're already 48% funded! :la: Just one Kickstarter Exclusive Print or $8 gets us to 50% funded in the first day! (EDIT: 55% by the end of the first day -- 2/3rds funded by day 5!)

Hey, Hooligans! My newsletter subscribers and patrons helped design this cover for our next book! :D

Our Kickstarter launches tomorrow, Tuesday, May 15th!

EDIT: After a little under a week, the project is already 67% funded! :la:

Trivia: the blind justice character is named Themis and she is not a god, she's one of the titans. Also, she was never blind -- that's a modern addition. Though to be fair, there's not really a singular translation of what Themis means in English. It does mean "justice", but it also meant "will of the gods", which wasn't necessarily just, merely what the gods decided. So somebody getting their comeuppance like Tantalus was Themis, but so was getting crabs or dying of tuberculosis for no particular reason. ;P

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Themis

Also, scholars of Greek mythology will tell you, the Greeks were pretty fascist in their thinking. If you were strong or beautiful, it was only because the gods loved you, and therefore you must be "good", because you were beautiful and strong. And of course conversely if you were ill or had deformities, that indicated that you were "bad" and the gods were punishing you for it. This lead to a pretty awful culture for anyone who wasn't beautiful and strong, though it also lead to some funny anecdotes, like the time a prostitute won a trial by flashing her boobs to the jurors and saying, "obviously I'm good and the gods love me if they gave me these!... If the tits are legit, you must acquit!" ;P

Long time no see, woohooligan.
I've got some REALLY bad news for the internet as a whole.
It might even mean the death of the free internet.
(Text copied from 'fight for the future foundation'.)

Last week, WikiLeaks released the final text of the TPP’s intellectual property rights chapter and it is absolutely terrifying.

These are just a few of its most dangerous pieces:

  • Compel ISPs to take down websites without any sort of court order, just like SOPA. (Appendix Section I)

  • Extend the US’s copyright regime to require copyrights stand for life plus 70 years, preventing anyone from using works that belong in the public domain. (Article QQ.G.6)

  • Criminalize whistleblowing by extending trade secrets laws without any mandatory exemptions for whistleblowers or investigative journalists. (QQ.H.8)

  • End anonymity online by forcing every domain name to be associated with a real name and address. (Article QQ.C.12)

  • Make it illegal to unlock, modify, or generally tinker with a device you own. (Article QQ.G.10)

  • Export the US’s broken copyright policies to the rest of the world without expanding any of the free speech protections, like fair use. (Article QQ.G.17)

The worst part is that this is just one of the TPP’s 30 chapters.

The final text confirms our worst fears — click here to take action demanding Congress vote NO on the TPP.

For years, governments have held critics of the massive Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement in a perfect catch 22. Officials brushed off public outcry and concern by claiming that the dissenters didn’t have all the facts.

This was by design—the 12 country trade deal was negotiated entirely behind closed doors by industry lobbyists and government appointees, and even now the text of the agreement is still classified.

But late last week, WikiLeaks released the final text of the Intellectual Property chapter, meaning those excuses won’t work anymore.

We’re planning to go all out against the TPP, but the first step is to make sure Congress knows just how many people oppose the TPP.

Click here to take action demanding Congress vote NO on the TPP.

Taking action today is just the beginning, because if all we do is send emails and make phone calls, Congress is not going to reject the TPP. Too many giant industries are seriously invested in making sure Congress ratifies the TPP.

If we’re going to win, we need to go big. Which is exactly what we’re going to do.

So take action right now. Contact your Congresspeople now and tell them to vote against the TPP. Then get ready to do more because we’re going to unleash some of our strongest campaigns ever.

Already we have plans to work with hundreds of different groups as a massive coalition to fight the TPP, coordinate gigantic on-the-ground protests in key cities across the country, and produce compelling content to spread the word to as many different audiences as possible just what is at stake in the TPP.

To do all that, we need your help — if you can, pledge to chip in $5 every month between now and when the TPP fight ends so that we can run our biggest, boldest, and best campaign yet.

Thanks for all you do,
Charlie

P.S. Want to read the text of the chapter for yourself? Check it out on WikiLeaks here, or read their overview of it here. It’s long and complicated, so maybe you'll see something that we didn't. If you do, send us an email.

(Please spread the word.)
