Hey, Hooligans! I just posted a blog over on my Tumblr that might interest some of you.…

In particular, :iconelectricgecko: and maybe :iconspinester: -- it's related to the previous journal I wrote about the Webcomic Police review from December. It's not a big deal if you're not interested, I just thought I'd tag you guys in case you were curious.

:new: Also, my friend Amy still needs some more commission work, so I'm re-posting that.

That's ... a long explanation.  Yeah, I saw that review.  Like you said, there's lots of dumb reviews of webcomics.  I wouldn't let it get to you, though.  Just shake it off and keep doing your thing.  As for reviewing webcomics, it's ... yeah.  I think it's a futile task.  Most webcomics are just okay.  They're developing and/or so-so talents exploring their craft with very few readers, and there's nothing wrong with that.  But offering constructive criticism is kind of dangerous, even if it's coming from a good place.  Like you've found, people are super-sensitive.

I don't review.  I do, however, do profiles of comics I really, truly like.  It's all positive, and glowing, and honest, because I only profile comics that are good.  And I don't take requests.  That's a slippery slope, the request thing, because you get really insecure people asking you to do a review, and wanting only praise.  And if their stuff sucks, what then?

That's just my two cents on the matter.

 Yeah it's long... part of that is because I deconstructed the original review, so there's automatically a bunch of quoted text from that to make it longer... I was also practicing my comedy. I consider myself a comedian first before being a cartoonist and so I feel like I should be able to do a variety of kinds of comedy - stand-up, sketch, cartooning and prose... I think prose comedy is a lot like stand-up actually. Sketch and cartooning are fairly similar, although most of the time you can do things in a cartoon that aren't practical in sketch.

On the reviewing, my rules include a minimum 100 pages before I'll consider a review to weed out most of the people who aren't either serious or ready. And moving forward I'm going to be more willing to decline a review -- learned that from Iron and Steel.

Thanks, C!
