There's a Scottish legend about a creature called a Selkie. Selkies are seals who turn into women by shedding their skins. If a man can hide the seal skin from her, she will stay with him. But if she finds the skin she'll put it back on and jump into the sea, never to return.
Acrylic on a 16"X20" canvas.

The legend has protected so many seals from barbaric men. In a way, the selkie still protects

This is beautiful and very tasteful. A legend tied to my family history (I'd say more, but not here). I would love to include your art on an essay I've been thinking of doing for it, but of course only with your permission and full credit given.

out of all the selkie pictures I have found online I think this is the one that best depicts both sides of the selkie without turning them into some kind of mutant. I love it. Having irish selkie heritage myself this is probably one of my most favorite pieces I have seen. I'll definately buy a print when I can afford one!

This is actually stunning, I am in love!
I love all mythological stories, but the ones of the Selkie and the Kelpie intriege me most (heh, here's another one from the land of the Scots ;P)
The detail, the composition and the whole concept of the picture is beautiful.
You've done a fantastic job of capturing this scene. =)

You know what I never mentioned and meant to say? The fact that you've made her hair red - very nice touch as that links in with the whole red heads of Scotland =D (if it was unintentional then oh well, I just think it's a very fitting colour to the concept).

Anyway!
Heheh, it's no problem m'dear =) If this was my painitng it surely would be one of my favourites too
