The old and new five rand coins.
The text in the coat of arms on the back of the old coin reads "Ex Unitate Virem", Latin "From Unity, Strength" (after the ZAR's "Eendragt maakt magt")
The text in the coat of arms on the back of the new coin reads "!ke e: /xarra //ke", San "Unity in Diversity"
The text repeated as a pattern around the front of the new coin reads "SARB" for "South African Reserve Bank".
The new coin is modelled after the Euro with respect to its dual-metal construction in order to make it harder to counterfeit.

Haha, the new coin is definitely prettier but it’s the old one that gets accepted by the vending machines.
