Description
A variation on [link]
[EDIT: changed the font to make it more readable]
[EDIT 2: completely redid the text to make it MOAR AWESUM
]
[EDIT 3: fixed the lyrics, which were wrong. D'oh!!]
The second verse of "Die Stem van Suid-Afrika".
Translation follows:
In the marrow of our bones
In our heart
and soul
and spirit
In our glorying in our past
In our hope as to what shall be
In our will
and working
and wandering
From the crib unto our grave
No other land shares our love
No other loyalty distracts us
Fatherland!
We shall bear the nobility of your name with honour
True and loyal as Africans*
Children of South Africa
* "Afrikaners" = "Africans" at the time the poem was originally written, and is therefore translated here as it was intended. Today, of course, "Afrikaner" more commonly refers to a certain Afrikaans-speaking ethnic group (a.k.a. Boers).
