Earlier this week at a UN Human Rights Council meeting, Saudi Arabia repeatedly attempted to silence the Center for Inquiry and prevent it from presenting a statement calling for the release of political and religious activists who have been arrested in the Gulf State.
Raif Badawi is a Saudi blogger who set up a liberal forum for Saudis; "liberal" in the sense that it called for things such as religious tolerance and improved treatment of women. In 2012 he was arrested on the charges of insulting Islam and apostasy, and received a sentence of 10 years, 1000 lashes, and a fine of 1 million riyals.
Waleed Abu al-Khair, Badawi's brother-in-la
