In the Face of Death -Spoilers by WintersKnight In the Face of Death -Spoilers by WintersKnight
This is a picture I've been wanting to do for a good long time now, it involves the third book of The Forbidden Game trilogy by L.J. Smith.

The books were just reprinted earlier in June, so I re-read them and was inspired to finally make this art.

Julian faces down the Tall Shadowman with the crocodile eyes while others look on in the Joyland Shadow-Park. Jenny is of course there too looking a bit freaked out by the horrible creatures which are the older Shadow Men.

I was looking for this in my favourites and couldn’t find it. I can’t believe I never added it! Nor left a comment! (I can’t find if I have). Anyways, this is one of the best scenes in TFG, really love the shadow man, they need more art! And more for the creepy little scuttling foetuses and mini men with masks. Eeep!

Totally agree about it being one of the best scenes. I need to do some more, but I've got my brains spread so thin between TFG and Virals and general Norse Mythology (Loki demands that I draw him lots).

I need to do more creeeeepy shadow folk ^___^.

Especially since the last Night World was written like eight to ten years before Craplight and those did. BAH. It's not Ms. Smith's fault that one has to actually follow a market in order to make a comeback, and Vamps are big right now. So .. GRR!

Yes! Thank you! Finally someone gets it! It's very true it is most certainly not her fault she has to go with the flow of buisness in order to make a living! Even if the T.V. series makes her Vampire Diaries work a little mediocre. Sorry but it's true, Unfortunately.

Yeah, it's the main reason I'm working on writing YA now instead of more of my regular book stuff.. plus the fact that I reread ALL the LJ Smith books from my younger days, and then thusly NEEDED to write YA fiction. I refuse to read the Craplight books.. even watching the movies (dragged into it) makes me feel like my IQ has gone down about sixty points.

There should be some sort of art contest on here for those books. I think the world needs more FG art!

I agree totally. Maybe I'll do another picture this week (maybe). I'm home for my birthday, so I figure I may as well get something done besides sleeping and writing.

Hee that's quite alright. I tend to like to keep a bit of a memento mori going on with things, myself. I am almost half tempted to write some fan fiction, but I have WAY too much writing to do already with the novel and the sequel to the old novel (I still have to find an agent for publishing though).

OMG!!! You're publishing a novel!! Cool, my friend is publishing a novel at the moment and she's fourteen, only hers is gory and stuff..... Well, I one day hope to be a successful writer so you better remember me :D I'm joking, btw, although I think I'm too flighty to continue writing my love stories, I admit it, I'm one of those hopeless romantics :D

If I can find an agent I definitely am going to publish. It's a sort of horror story, and it's about a young woman named Charlie Cole who has cool powers. I for some reason have difficulty writing love stories, I guess I figure the stories that I want to tell could do without the romancy stuff.. though the Young Adult novel I'm working on outlining is going to have a little romance inside I'm sure. But mostly it's going to involve magic and monsters and cool stuff like that.

OMG It sounds cooool :D I will buy it once it's published, well not if it's too scary, though... I'm not good with scary stuff. It tends to really freak me out :D OMG now that we're talking about unpublished books will you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE check out mine and miss-ami's totally nonsensical book called The Story, ironically :D We were going to publish it until we realised it's not fit for publishing :D Heh heh we co-wrote when we were bored and it turned into a hell of a lot of chapters :B

I will definitely check it out one of these days when I have some time. I am of the sort who isn't good at telling if something will be "Too scary" for people because I don't scare easily (hence that I had such a horrible worst nightmare >_<). I am sure that some of the stories I could tell you would chill your very blooood (ok that's me being dramatic). Hopefully the Young Adult book will be more somewhere between L.J. Smith and H.P. Lovecraft in scariness. . . we'll see lol. Note me, we should continue all these conversations that way.. I think it would be easier than keeping three different comment threads.

Yeah, Carousel dude is the awesome. He's so bloody creepy... I kept being startled by him as I was drawing because I would forget I had put him there! I also love the Boschian fetus thing and... ok.. so I love them all.. but especially those two.

As for the crocodile eyed fellow, I decided to give him the same hair as my statue of Michael The Archangel has... just to sort of even further drive home the fact that they once were lovely, but the evil begins to show after a time.

Ha ha... actually it took me um... about.... one day. I did the drawing the night before then coloured it last evening. I had another I'd started before, but I didn't like how it was going so I scrapped it and started over.

Thank you! I wish there were some way to get Ms. Smith to see it or something (not sure if its QUITE good enough for that). I used ink (painted) to colour it all, which is something I started doing in school because I got sick of Gouache.

Hmm short of trying to send it through her publishers, I'm not sure. That's a shame, I think she'd love it too.

Awh I was thinking it had been done in water colours. It has that blendy look of it. I've never been that great with inks ><

Water colour would probably not end up as vibrant lol (especially with me behind them). Hmm.. I could try sending it to the addy at her website, I wonder if she checks that like a normal person. . . Bet it gets swamped.. but I could try >_>.
