Wings of Fire Fanfic: Mirage on the Horizon ~ Ch 2
CHAPTER 2
The fire blazed, crackling and popping like a symphony. Mirage sat watching it, letting her mind wander. No matter what she tried to think about, her mind continued to circle back to the SandWing. ‘He was very strange… I never got his name.’
She continued to watch the flames when she thought she hear a noise. She turned around, looking up at the sky while fanning out the flames. Her night vision kicked in and she located two shapes flying away. ‘I don’t think they saw me… but I need to be more careful.’
She let the fire die out before falling asleep. She awoke to a bird screeching in the trees. Startled, Mirage sat up, blinking sleep from her eyes. She stood up with a talon on the side of her head and grabbed her pack. Tapping each of the bottles across her neck, she took off, landing at the edge of Possibility. She had just arrived to Salmon’s market stall when she decided not to go in. She was just turning around to continue deeper into the crowd when he called to

CHAPTER 1
A cloaked dragon dropped silently from the sky, landing gracefully between the trees. She looked up, the fading sunlight glinting off her dark eyes. She began to build a fire, collecting twigs and branches from the area. With just one breath, the fire was blazing, eating away at the wood. She watched the flames lick hungrily at the branches before turning away, dropping her pack.
The hood fell from her head, revealing her face. She was a SandWing with scales the color of wet sand. She had no jewelry, but instead had a strip of leather around her arm that held a compass, one around her neck that held three small bottles, and a map tube around her waist. She started to unpack her bag, taking out a small wooden dragon that could fit neatly in her palm. She inspected it for a moment before breathing a burst of flame over it, reducing it to ashes that she brushed away with ease.
Sighing, she turned to look at the campfire before up in the direction of the dragon town

PROLOGUE
I was hatched in a cave. A collapsing one, at that. My parents were outcasts; they didn’t particularly like the the war that Oasis’s daughters caused, so they left. They were outcasts. And they would have lived through the war, coming back to Queen Thorn to live in peace- if it weren’t for me.
I was the reason that my loving patents died. I was the egg that made my parents make a pit-stop in a very safe cave. That was sarcasm.
Anyways, long story short: they hid in there for my hatching, and the cave system started to collapse. Somehow, I got out. My parents…
I was raised by SkyWings for a long time- four years, to be exact. They weren’t exactly… caring, so to speak, but they were something. The moment that I could process information, they told me exactly what happened. They weren’t my parents- they weren’t the ones to love- they were just doing what was right: not letting a hatchling die. And even though they probably wouldn’t care if I told them I wanted to leave, to be on
