Returning Dusk Ch.12 part II
Minvric smiled widely despite the painful tug on his lips it caused. He could barely believe his luck. Having been shut out of Heaven's Peak for the past few years and then trapped, finding the new Overlord standing before him had been nothing short of a miracle. Truly, Vessperion blessed him with such fortune. After a few tries he had managed to clarify his name, and now he led his Dark Lord to Faustus' arena. From there he could enter the city above. Minvric had no doubt that his master would defeat anything the governor threw at him. He glanced up again as he heard a faint voice coming from Lord Erengar, though he knew it was not his voice. His god or one of his messengers spoke to him that was clear. A very good sign.
Behind then, the minions swarmed, eagerly inspecting and smashing old pottery and statues. Minvric had never seen one of the dark warriors before, but the depictions were a precise match to those he saw now. Behind them, the peasants

Returning Dusk Ch.12 part I
Empire City was ablaze in the night. Smoke rising from smoldering pyres to shroud the stars. Faustus sat on a divan atop his villa. He watched the rising smoke with pleasure, and he sipped on the finest wine money could buy. A girl no more than sixteen stood behind him demurely waiting to fulfill his every need. He rather liked her. Petite, with bright green eyes and long chestnut hair, she was beautiful. Smooth, flawless skin was covered by a simple white toga, but what he loved most was her growing magic. She was a most useful tool, and as long as the witch hunts continued, she would have nowhere to go. Not that she wanted to. She was impeccably loyal. "Julia..." He began, but paused when he saw a shadow flash across the floor from behind. "Leave me for now." He said with a casual wave. Just after the girl's footsteps faded, he spoke. "I've been waiting."
"You might've waited longer if your witch burnings had continued." He said as

Years passed as Erengar trained under the tutelage of the minions. Ever the while, tensions sprung into conflict and war. Renae, a daughter of the last Overlord, had sown the seeds of chaos and stoked the destruction that descended on the lands. The elves fought a war on two fronts now. Civil war had erupted, and the Ruborians had swept in under the pretense of restoring peace. That pretense lasted only until the first battle when the Empire's forces chose not to discriminate.
In the Dwarven lands, the stout folk turned to enslaving their own in an attempt to contain the growing riots and dissatisfaction. All clans responsible for the tending, mining, and even some responsible for the creation of goods had become redundant. Noble clans, and those with the coin, took over the mines, fields, and factories, and left their brethren with no way to earn coin. There was also an increase in escaping slaves, and their dwarven masters qu

Eren tumbled forward in confusion and blind from the intense light that hadn't yet dissipated. His hands milled around for some kind of support, but he fell flat on his face. He got up onto his knees, but he didn't look around. All he could think about was Renae. The sound of the arrow whizzing past his ear, her scream, the blood... The image of her just... lying there was engraved in his mind. He starting bringing his hand to his head when he remembered he was still clutching Footrot's discarded sickle. He stared at the bloodied curved blade. He'd killed someone for the time. The anger he had felt, the agony. For a moment, the memory cut through his current despair.
He finally took in his surroundings. The endless fields meeting the enormous trunks of a familiar forest whose edge met a village with bouncing sheep and mostly happy people. He was in the fields outside Spree. After all that happened in Evernight, it seemed like a long time since they

Golden Hills was nothing like Eren expected. He wasn't sure exactly what he had been expecting, but it wasn't this. He thought there'd be warm brown earth or fields of yellow not this. The ground was dark, and ashy in some areas. Metal things rolled along, roaring when they sped up. The front half plowed through dirt. People pushed mine carts while covered in soot and dirt. Some others walked into the mine ahead with pickaxes, passing a handful of people pushing a flat cart out that carried metal barrels. Dwarves watched from their stone perches, or they herded the workers. The sky was hazy from everything being kicked up, so Eren barely saw the building in the distance spewing smoke into the air. It was all just so desolate. After the vibrancy of Evernight, it was just so shell shocking to see.
Renae simply stared with cool indifference. Eren wished he could do that. His jaw was still on the ground. Sh

Eren stared ahead miserably for the second week in a row. No one had said anything since they'd escaped Neirvan. They'd been riding hard through the forest deathly silent. When Renae woke up, Taven wouldn't look at her. She didn't say anything to him. She just climbed on behind Eren. Celine wouldn't look at him or his sister either. All he could do was stare at her black curls from behind wondering why. What happened? All he could remember was Taven storming in telling him to grab everything he'd brought and get to the stables. Everything that happened after, happened in a blur. Running from guards chasing Renae, him using magic, seeing her use magic. Why had any of it happened? What hadn't he been told.
He wanted to curl up into a ball every time they stopped to make camp. Everyone just did what they had to without a word, and nobody looked at anybody, not even Renae. This time wasn't any different. He just... he just... "I can't take it

Renae couldn't help feeling a little frustrated that Eren had shown up an hour after she had come back. He had been exhausted and wouldn't tell her where he'd been. He didn't normally do this, but seeing that bright smile on his face... she didn't press it. It wasn't like he was hurt or anything. He left again after lunch. She could've followed, but she had things to take care of. It wasn't like she needed to watch. She cursed her own uneasiness as she wandered the higher levels of the elven city. Aylon had left a pit her stomach that wouldn't go away since his visit. That he managed to get in so easily without her even hearing the door open, and that look on his face. That pit in her burned with the desire to find out what was going on, but she held herself in check. She was a guest, and making trouble wouldn't help. As much as she'd like to question him, she had to fall back on her ever reliable way. Subtlety was her specialty. The best way to find reliable in

Renae couldn't help staring in awe. In the dream visit, she'd only seen Neirvan from above, but it spread out down below as well. The first thing that filled their view was a massive temple dedicated to the Mother Goddess. It was made of mostly limestone and overgrown with flowering vines and large leafy plants. It made for a strange unique effect since the temple was clearly still well kept. On either side various tree dwelling were formed from living wood. They bulged out to form spacious rooms, but most of the trees were so enormous that it was barely noticeable. Wood steps climbed the giants that were linked with wood and vine bridges and living platforms that grew outward like flat mushroom tops. Everything connected with living plants. A myriad of creatures swarmed the area. Groups of fairies and wisps floated by in the heights, and in natural groves unicorns grazed. She spotte

Renae woke up still tired and even a little sore. Part of it was her wounds, but she also vividly remembered her conversation with King Leonan. At least she knew what to expect. Orym was up as well. The blonde shot her a glare as she got up and stretched. "At least you don't beat around the bush," she said. The elf looked at her surprised and weary. "Yes, I mean you." She added and looked him in the eye.
"What are you implying?" He asked now that he was aggravated.
"You speak your mind, and are clear about how you feel about something." She took in his confusion and continued. "There's no guessing, no games, just a straightforward answer."
"And why do you care?" He couldn't hid a note of curiosity and pride.
She rolled her shoulders and head. "I don't care for people who dance around the topic and expect me to play along." She let that sink in. "I somehow doubt y

Renae rose with the sun, and wandered around Spree. Although she and her brother kept moving, they'd never been south of the heartlands. She preferred to stay as far away from Ruboria as possible. As she wandered, she imagined that this was how the old Spree was like before the Great Cataclysm. Most of the houses were wood, and many had small gardens. Sheep bounced around merrily, and she could here the minions cheering at the sight. Gnarl hadn't been by the mistpool when she woke up, but many of minions that were wherever Gnarl was not around, now were.
"Look like before. Nice." One said.
    She recognized Basher. "Really?
"Sheepies everywhere. Master let us kill every time went through. Lot of sheepies heads to wear. Wore once, too. Nice and warm." The first one continued.

It was nearly a month before they could see Spree. Despite the number of fields that ran along the roads, there'd been plenty of trees. That is until they thinned out and were replaced with more and more crops. Barley, wheat, corn, and even more pumpkins. Renae kept a hand on her brother's waist to keep him from falling off. Somehow he managed to get some sleep while she guided the horse. Gnarl continued to keep her company, but he had a habit of reminiscing. He really did miss having an Overlord. Basher also kept her company. He kept his eyes peeled for 'sheepies' and other smash able things, like pumpkins. Quaver occasionally sang a rhyme or two but those were always about the last Overlord.
Renae looked over fields of wheat from the hill she was on to Spree. She could even still see remnants of her grandfather's old tower, but chunks of the stone had been used to build the wall that now surroun

Renae hurried back to her brother. He shot up when he heard her coming. "Sis, what's-"
"Pack up, we're leaving." She interrupted.
    "But why?" He asked.
Renae slung her pack over her shoulder. "Because we need to get to Evernight before they do."
"Evernight... wait, we're not going to ask the elves for help." He whined.
    His sister grinned. "Better."
"Better? Sis, what are you up to?" He asked as he grabbed his own pack.
She smiled at him. "We're going to put the elves at odds with the Ruborians."
"We're going to..." he paused for a moment before grinning. "Sis, you're a genius." He took off running with Renae at his heels. "But Renae, how are we going to do that."

Over a week later Renae and Eren stood on a cliff watching as a ship neared the coast. Renae hadn't told her little brother, instead she made it seem as though they had simply stumbled across it and the caravan below. If she had, she'd have to explain how she new, and she wasn't to keen on that. It wasn't long before the ship dropped anchor, and a longboat headed toward shore. The caravan was made up of mostly Ruborians who stood by wagons with tarps covering something that seemed like a large box. She could guess what that really was, and the fact that there were several only confirmed her suspicion. Several guards stood watching as the boat pulled up on shore. The boat itself carried two guards and a group of five chained together. Three were elves, the other two were human, and each race had a woman. The caravan leader, a man in a blue tunic and brown pants, stepped forward to inspect them.

As the first rays of light filtered through the window, a girl around eighteen awoke. Gentle brown curls swayed around her shoulders as she rose. Dark grey eyes searched the room until they fell upon a clay basin. The girl splashed her face leaning over it to look at her tanned face in the reflection for a moment. She still felt sleepy as she hadn't gotten back 'til late last night. She quickly dried it and buttoned on a vest that hugged her curves on over her loose shirt, and a pair of worn leather boots.
The teen looked back at a figure still curled up on the bed. A younger boy with darker hair and lighter skin lay fast asleep. "Eren," the girl called softly. "Erengar," she called a little louder, smirking at the name their mother had insisted on. "Come on, wake up." Unsurprisingly he resisted her attempts.
She shook him gently until he mumbled, "Go away, let me sl

Handling Boone.
Everyone had folded, even Arcade.  While we waited with bated breath, the last better shook his head, and forfeited to Boone.  My jaw dropped as Boone drunkenly scooped the mountain of chips toward him.
"Wait, what was your hand?"  One player asked.   Boone paused, narrowing his eyes, and then said, "Oh."
He threw down a pair of two's.
Arcade erupted into laughter, I shook my head slowly with a dumbfounded smile.  The other gamblers sighed, the early folders laughing with Arcade for having gotten out easy.  Again, a crowd had formed, most buying our drinks in the hopes that someone would win the pot if Arcade or Boone got drunk enough.  And while Arcade was performing at his peak it appeared Boone could out-poker him.  How, we still weren't sure.  The blond had rambled on about chance and statistics some more, while Boone's shrewd glare kept the other players on their

Dream About Me Part 1
The Arishok battle takes place, obviously, at the end of Act 2, so lets say Hawke and Fenris slept together two weeks before? Just a rough timeline. This story won't be venturing into Act 3 since its 3 years later, but it will differ from the cannon of Fenris and Hawke not really making up until then. Because that's just too long to wait.
-----
"Fenris!"
The elf jerked back to reality upon hearing his name called so frantically. He allowed his eyes a second to refocus from their previous glazed state to find Anders kneeling on the carpet of the Viscount's Keep next to a bloody and limp Hawke. Merrill was sitting on her heels next to him, her lips moving quickly as she cradled the rogue's head. What was she saying, Fenris wondered, to a man who was bleeding from the temple and surely unconscious by now?
"Fenris, get over here!"
Finally his knees bent with a jerk and the elf began to put one foot in front of the other. The whole situation felt surreal. The nobles around th

Is this the real life?

Is this just fantasy?

Caught in a landslide

No escape from reality

Look up to the skies and see

I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy

Because I'm easy come, easy go

Little high, little low

Anyway the wind blows, doesn't really matter to me

Mama, just killed a man

Put a gun against his head

Pulled my trigger, now he's dead

Mama, life had just begun

But now I've gone and thrown it all away

Didn't mean to make you cry

If I'm not back again this time tomorrow

Carry on, carry on, as if nothing really matters

Too late, my time has come

Sends shivers down my spine

Body's aching all the time

Goodbye everybody, I've got to go

Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth

Mama, ooh (Any way the wind blows)

I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all

I see a little silhouetto of a man

Scaramouche, Scaramouche, will you do the Fandango?

Thunderbolts and lightning, very, very frightening me

Magnifico (Oh, oh, oh, oh!)

I'm just a poor boy, nobody loves me

He's just a poor boy from a poor family

Spare him his life from this monstrosity

Easy come, easy go, will you let me go?

We will not let you go (Let him go!)

Bismillah! We will not let you go (Let him go!)

Bismillah! We will not let you go (Let me go!)

Will not let you go (Let me go!) (Never, never, never, never, never let me go!)

Will not let you go (Let me go!)

No, no, no, no, no, no, no!

Oh, mamma mia, mamma mia

Mamma mia, let me go

Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me

So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye?

So you think you can love me and leave me to die?

Oh baby, can't do this to me baby

Just gotta get out, just gotta get right out of here

Ooh yeah, ooh yeah

Nothing really matters,

Nothing really matters, nothing really matters to me
