Now you get to see for yourselves how Cody is with loud noises and how he reacts to them, and I've been wanting to do artwork of something like this for a while!
Being Cody has autism, Cody hates loud noise! Loud noise makes him very uncomfortable and especially sudden loud noises, which make him jump up. Cody doesn't like balloons, especially when they pop, loud thunder, especially in big claps, the sound of fireworks, actually he doesn't like fireworks all that much, horns, explosions, people talking loudly, fire alarms, etc! All those things make him very uncomfortable! Even train horns can make him uncomfortable and Cody likes trains. I can relate too because when I was 5 years old and standing at the train station in Benson, Arizona, I heard how loud train horns and the trains themselves can be and that scared me, even made me cry after the second train went by! I mean I've heard train horns before and been at train stations before, at least in Germany, but that time in Benson was the first time I heard a train without being in a car that was not shut off!
I also drew picture wearing what I've seen other autistic people wear, sound-cancelling headphones! Although loud noises still make Cody uncomfortable, when he wears those he's more comfortable and at ease! And fun fact, I just ordered myself some sound-cancelling headphones, now I don't have to rely on earplugs alone and head phones are easier to put on.
This was my first time drawing Cody covering his ears and my first time drawing him wearing headphones, which I needed sources for as with some other things in my drawing.
What's sad though is some people don't understand or care that Cody is sensitive to loud noises. Sometimes he gets the speech "It's just noise," or "Noise isn't going to hurt you," or "Oh just deal with it," or "That's life!" Though some of these people who say these things to him mean well, it doesn't take away from the discomfort or his sensitivity! But sometimes Cody is given a hard time or gets criticized or bullied for his sensitivity and disdain to loud noises!
So all you who are sensitive to loud noises, whether you're autistic or not, you're not going through it alone, Cody knows and understands how you feel and so do I! And if you don't have ear phones, I recommend you get some!

So something else for Autism Awareness Month, especially if I don't have time to make anymore art for this month! But this work is autism-themed!
