Avatar: The Last Smite-bender by WilliamsonKnox Avatar: The Last Smite-bender by WilliamsonKnox
*Phew* I've been working on this project off and on for the past half-year, but it's finally finished! I give you a crossover between the beloved TV series, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and the third most popular MOBA in online gaming (with characters based off of deities from ancient mythologies and religions) Smite. The logos belong to each of the works respectively as do the characters, though they might be harder to divvy out between the two XD. I've based the character crossovers more on personality than abilities so some of the matches may not make sense at first glance.

Let me give you the run-down. We have:

Aang as Sun Wukong, the Monkey King (with Appa and Momo as his transformations) - Even though Sun Wukong may be a little more aggressive than the peaceful monk that Aang is, I noticed some some similarities between Sun Wukong's lore and Aang's role in his universe. Overall I think they're an appropriate match.

Sokka as Tyr, the Lawgiver - Alright, so this one's a bit of a stretch...Why did I pair up Sokka, a funny, creative genius with a stoic stick-in-the-mud like Tyr? One answer...the Wolf-tails! Come on, they're practically Wolf-tail brothers! But seriously, while Sokka may act like a clown at times, he's just as committed to dispensing justice as Tyr when the need arises.

Katara as Nu Wa, Guardian of Heaven - Okay, erm...First let me say that my first and primary reason for matching them was because I thought they had a lot in common, being protective, motherly personalities and all. But you have to admit, she does make that outfit look good (please don't hate me, fans of either character).

Toph as Chaac, God of Rain ("Haha, you hit like a vegetarian!") - It was "tough" choosing a match-up for Toph. I thought Geb or Cabraken would be a little forced, but Chaac seemed the perfect fit once I thought about it. And it's not like Toph hasn't been represented by a male character before...

Zuko as Agni, God of Fire - Well, at least he doesn't have to worry about those burn marks any more, since now he's on fire FOR THE REST OF HIS LIIIIFE! Really though, I thought that representing what Zuko learned about fire's dual capacity for destruction and creation in Agni's body would be the perfect way to represent him.

Iroh as Guan Yu, the Saint of War - This was an easy one. They're both noble, honorable warriors that embody chivalry and righteousness. They also like to kick a$$ and drink tea. Any objections?

If you like what you see here then I might be tempted to add some more characters in these universes to the crossover. The next one will feature the villains of the Avatar-verse, and perhaps the one after that will cover supporting characters. Feel free to suggest which characters you'd like to see paired up with which gods or goddesses in the next one (though hopefully it won't take half a year to finish it).

Actually Aang x Sun Wukong point out all the similarities in both the series and characters, but the comment would be very long or 3 very long comments so better not comment it.

Just to say that even in the chapter '' The library '' when they see the calendar of the comet zozin is in the year of the monkey (fire possibly) similar to Wukong the Diyu with Jizo and in the oven of Lao-Tse.

Quick mentions
1) Wukong in the oven refers to the cycle of the avatar and the Dalai Lama and the buddhas '' The Buddhist Bardo '' 49 days / years in the oven.
2) In chapter 3 he mentions that he is above the 31 kingdoms and the 5 elements.
3) Wukong and Aang come out of an '' egg of pidra '' '' Egg of ice ''
4) The eyes of the avatar state are reference to the eyes of Wukong.
5) Both are the connection between the earthly and spiritual world (Tian and Di in Journey to the West), heaven and earth translated for us.
6) It's Dragon Dance style is a style used by the Boxers supposedly taught by Wukong to protect China.
7) They use a staff
8) Although the series is Buddhist '' The avatar '' is the same in another body, this to some extent goes against Buddhism, Wukong just is one, has neither ancestors nor successors is only '' Wukong ''
9) chapter the guru, teaches the basics but the important thing is Satori Sunyata in the majority of Buddhist doctrines of the chakra, Nirvana is the Sunyanta or basically Wukong, which is the translation of Santuri Sunyata.
10) Sun refers to 'sacred embryo' that their representations are similar to when you first see Aang in chapter 1
11) Wukong or Goku also refers to the wind
12) Both are unconcerned at the start
13) Wukong vs Jade Emperor, Aang vs. Lord of Fire, China vs Dinastian Ming
14) Both died twice '' spiritually ''

An intriguing, fun and actually a pretty good idea!  Here are my thoughts:

Sun WukongxAang: It comes down to Sun or Vamana with Aang, either are a fitting choice. But Sun WUkong's occasional love for fun and trickery and rebellious attitude towards higher gods reflect Aang's personality and relations with Fire nation quite well.

TyrxSokka: It is clear that it would have to be one of the norse deities for him, Tyr or Thor to be more specific. Considering Sokka's status as a politician in the later parts of his life and devotion to his people resemble Tyr. However, I must say that I believe Thor might actually been even more fitting pick. Both are proud warriors, sometimes to the point of arrogance, and both have an almost obsessive fondness for a thrown weapon that always returns back to the sender's hand. But excellent work, nevertheless.

Nu WaxKatara: Can't argue with this one, protective motherly figure is what both definitely are. Did you have Nu Wa's 'Waterdancer' -skin in mind when you made this?

ChaacxToph: The colors do match, as does Chaac's boisterous in-game personality with Toph's, and as you said, there's nothing wrong with a male character representing her. Though I see some alternatives.  I can't see how Chaac's role as an atoner lore-wise fits for Toph -despite running away from home she regrets nothing. I wonder how she would have fit with Terra (no real need for explanation because of everything related to earth), or Bellona (both are walking definitions of the word 'tomboy' and love to fight. And if Chaac has an axe, Bellona has a hammer, which some earthbenders supposedly use.) But good job.

AgnixZuko: No arguments on this one, the two are like made for each other. Even funnier is that I also think that Azula is a nearly perfect match for Sol. Though I don't think she's gonna be too happy about being forced to forever pull the Sun around the world. Heh heh...

Guan YuxIroh: If you ask me, the only possible gods for Iroh are either Guan Yu or Hachiman. Their personalities are rather similar, as is their representation of an ideal warrior. However, Hachiman showed up only a brief while ago, so at the time you made this picture, you made the only possible real choice. Excellent work.

What do you think?

Thank you for leaving such a well-thought out comment. At some point I'm thinking of updating this one since I've gotten better at drawing since then. I'll do Aang as Vamana since his redesign looks a lot more like Aang and they're closer personality-wise. I'll change Katara to He Bo (as the painted lady). Additionally, I'll do one with the villains as well! (Azula will either be Hel or Izanami).

I simply MUST point out after a reconsideration that there is a single character in Smite who is practically  tailor-made for Azula: Da Ji. She's an absolute sadist who manipulated her way to the top, practically to the point where she ran the whole Chinese empire and she cares for no one but herself. As a matter of fact, one of her starting lines  ''I want to conquer this land, and I always get what I want!", could well come from Azula's  mouth. Even Da Ji's face looks to me almost like they used Azula as her model.

Good point! I haven't been keeping up with Smite lately so I almost forgot about her.

Thanks! Also, I forgot to mention that while Da Ji is lacking any fire-based abilities, one of her abilities does involve heating her claws for increased damage.

Thank you for your kind words.   And I'm pretty sure that  your upcoming Avatar x SMITE fanart/s will be great!

Wow! This actually looks really good! :D
So much great detail as well! I can clearly see the thought and effort put into this piece! :D
I can definitely see what you are trying to do now!

I rally like the poses that you used for each of the character and how it blends nicely with the characters that they are crossing over with!

I also like the composition of all the characters as well, especially how you put Iroh in the faded background! It's a very nice touch!

The lighting is well done too! You have a nice grip on your shading!

My only gripe would maybe be that the characters are a tad too close too each other (especially Aang and Sokka) and the excellent attention to detail gets lost in trying to figure out which detail belongs to whom! Also, to better help this, setting the title away from the characters, smaller and in the corner it's next to, would help it be more visible and allow your eye to focus more in the characters themselves!

Thanks for the feedback, and yes, in hindsight I probably should've given the characters some more space. But I'm glad you liked the composition and shading. I'd say those were the two hardest aspects to work on. :D

Great work then! You did well overcoming those aspects! :D
And I hope to see more work from you soon! ^_^
