Dhole

Dholes, Cuon alpinus, are the wild dogs of Asia.  They've beautiful reddish coats, and are somewhat smaller than our African hunting dogs.  Dholes used to be found in Europe, Asia and America from Alaska to Mexico, but today are restricted mostly to central, east and south-East Asia.  They live in clans and hunt in packs, taking down prey sometimes much larger than themselves.  Dholes are at present endangered, with only about 2500 remaining.  They're at risk mostly from loss of habitat and prey animals.  Acrylic painting.
