Daughter of Sand and Stone
by Libbie Hawker libbiehawker.com/

Zenobia was a 3rd-century Queen of the Palmyrene Empire in Syria, who led a famous revolt against the Roman Empire.  She expanded the empire, conquering Egypt and expelling the Roman prefectTenagino Probus, who was beheaded after he led an attempt to recapture the territory. She ruled over Egypt until 274, when she was defeated and taken as a hostage to Rome by Emperor Aurelian.  It is said that she was paraded through the streets of Rome, bound by chains of gold.

A very interesting image. I very like to see pictures of Russian girls captured by Tatars and led to slavery...

You should’ve also mention she was pardoned afterwards and became a landed nobility with a manor given to her not far from Rome

Solid gold or merely plated? Gold seems a bit soft to be a reliable chain metal.

Hi! I wanted to ask you something. I'm making a...ah, thing for D&D. A little homebrew background...whatever. I wanted to ask your permission to use this image for it?

It's absolutely beautiful, the history behind it is awesome, and I will give you full credit for it.

I love it so much. This was the first of your art that I saw, and it was so beautiful, capturing perfectly the history and her expression of defeat, that I had to sketch it myself. I'm not sure if you are interested in seeing my sketch at all, but I'm pirates-pencil if you ever want to look at it.
