The day was nice and cool, as the sun was shining bright on the Aryn land this morning. Barin was just enjoying everything, being outside, playing with his father, and having a chance to just play. Kane was enjoying his son, as Eden and Urs were still sleeping in the den.
Barin didn't mind at all, as he continued to jump and play on his father's legs and shoulders. "Daddy, when will I get to see more wolves?"
Barin was loving all the attention with the new wolves, and they were very interesting for Barin as well. Kane chuckled, as he tickled his son with his nose."Don't you worry Barin, there are plenty more wolves in Aryn for you to see."
Kane's ears twisted at the sound of footsteps, the perfect timing for someone to possibly meet Barin. The little pup wasn't paying attention to the footsteps, as he was playing and nipping at his father's long fur.
Alcatraz made his way toward Kane and Eden’s den, intending on getting to know the new little pups a bit better. He had visited them as infants, but now they were older and exploring the land around the den so it was time to pay them another visit. He saw Kane’s large white form as he approached, and heard the laughter that indicated there were likely pups around. He emerged from the undergrowth, seeing the pale gray coat of little Barin. The father and son seemed to be enjoying the lovely day. “Hello there.”
the Alpha male greeted as he trotted closer.
Kane turned around, to see his Uncle standing before the father and son. "Uncle Alcatraz. It's so good to see you."
As Kane got up to greet his Alpha, Barin was sitting there, in amazement at the wolf that he was looking straight into. He had brown fur, yellow eyes. Something in Barin just made him feel, warm, and safe. There was something else though, something about this wolf that made Barin so curious.
Kane had a large smile on his face, as he placed his forehead with his Uncle's forehead. "I'm so glad that you've made it."
His tail was swishing from side to side slowly as he spoke. Turning to look at his son, noticing how he was looking straight at his Uncle. "Uncle Alcatraz, this is Barin. Barin, this is your Uncle Alcatraz, the Alpha of the pack."
Barin was even more amazed at the title that his father gave the wolf. He was the Alpha, just like his Aunt Athena. He happily walked over to the two large wolves, before sitting down once more in front of his Uncle. "Hello Uncle Alcatraz."
He spoke in a joyous tone, as his little tail was still wagging behind him. Kane was smiling both at his Uncle, and his son, wanting to remember this moment for a long time.
Alcatraz smiled. “About time I got to know our newest Arynians,”
he said, then turned with Kane to look at Barin. He was white and silver with brown on his face and paws. He looked a lot like his father, in fact. And he was already quite large as well. They may have another Warden from this one. He dipped his head as he was introduced, “At your service,”
Alcatraz could see the amazement in Barin’s eyes, it made him proud. Sometimes he still couldn’t believe he was the Alpha of a pack. How far he had come… He refocused on Barin, “You are growing quickly, I remember when you were barely the size of my paw,”
he said. “So how are you today?”
A generic question, but good to start off the conversation, and start learning what the young one was like.
Barin was just sitting there, as he listened to his Uncle, the Alpha of Aryn, talking about the last time that he saw him. His little tail was still wagging, and it seemed to get faster and faster with every word Uncle Alcatraz was saying. Barin giggled, and walked up to his big Uncle. He stood on his hind legs, as his front paws used his Uncle's large, hefty legs as support. "I sure am Uncle Alcatraz! I want to be a big, strong Warden! Just like you and dad!"
Kane chuckled at his son's comment, and knowing in his heart that Barin was no doubt going to be a worthy Warden of Aryn. "Well Barin, you should know that your Uncle Alcatraz was the one who taught me how to be a Warden."
Barin's eyes were shocked at the statement his father made. A large gasp came from the little pup, as he looked back at his Uncle. "Really Uncle Alcatraz?!?! Can you teach me?!"
He was jumping up and down now, still using his Uncle's legs as support. The thought of getting lessons from his Uncle was making the little pup ecstatic with glee.
Barin was quite excited, it was clear, he got such spirit from his father no doubt. Kane had been an excitable young pup too. His chin pressed into his thick chest fur as he looked down at the pup. He smiled, “You are well on your way.”
he said, and it was true. Both of the pups were quite large and strong, taking that from their father. Barin would surely make a promising Warden someday.
He considered the pup as he asked. He expected to be helping with the pup’s training when he was old enough, alongside his father. “In time,”
Alcatraz said. He exchanged a glance with Kane, to ensure that Kane would be okay with a bit of training now. He looked back down at Barin. “But perhaps, if your father will allow, I can give you a small lesson.”
Barin's eyes were almost as big as the moon, when his Uncle said that he might be able to have one small lesson with him. He immediately jumped over to his father, looking up at him with the biggest puppy eyes. "Can Uncle Alcatraz teach me something?! Please!?"
Kane chuckled at the excited state of his son."I wouldn't have it any other way."
Kane reached down, and touched noses with his son. Kane would not be surprised if he was the exact same way about learning as is son is, but he thought it was good for his son to yearn for knowledge, especially knowledge that would help him in the future. Barin giggled as his father touched noses with him, before walking over to his Uncle. "I'm ready Uncle Alcatraz!"
There was confidence in his voice, as his little chest was puffed out, and a little tail wagging behind him.
Alcatraz smiled fondly at Barin’s eagerness, his mind already going through what lesson might be best for the pup, since he assumed Kane would agree. He was still quite young, so perhaps a skill that would be useful in case he found himself in a difficult situation would be good, as opposed to one that could be dangerous if he tried to apply it now.
He sat down as Barin bounded back over with the approval of his father. “Ears are often a useful target for fights. An ear wound has never killed a wolf, but it stings quite a bit!”
He flicked his own ears, before going on, “as wolves often keep their heads low during battles so to protect their throats, they are often an easy target as well… if you are careful. Going for a wolf’s ear as you face them may expose your throat to the enemy’s fangs. However… a surprise bite to the ear can throw off even the most hardened warrior,”
he looked at Barin carefully, making sure he was taking all this in. “That will be your lesson today.”
In truth, Alcatraz usually started young apprentices off with basics in balance and control, but that would be no fun for little Barin, so he decided a nice half-play lesson would be more interesting.
Barin stayed right where he was, as quiet as can be, taking in every word that his Uncle Alacatraz talked about getting someone at the ears. Barin was just so amazed, the ears were not just something to play with on the older wolves, but a tactical target if he was in a real fight.
His little tail swished from side to side, and as his Uncle ended his little training tip, Barin's eyes grew big. He didn't say another word, but walked up underneath his Uncle, and snuggled himself underneath the brown wolf's chin in a hug. "Thank you Uncle Alcatraz!"
His voice was of appreciation, and happiness, not only for learning a new tactic, but just being able to meet his Alpha, his Uncle Alcatraz.
Kane could do nothing but just watch his son being adorable, and looking at Alcatraz at his reaction to his son's hug. "I would say that he looks up to you know, but I think that's obvious."
Kane couldn't help but chuckle at the sight, seeing how much his son appreciated his family made him all the more proud of him.
Alcatraz smiled at the youth’s appreciation. ”Yes hopefully it will come in handy.”
the alpha said, nuzzling him in return. He looked at Kane and chuckled, “if the boy grows like his father did, it will be me looking up to him soon!”
he said, looking down at Barin in amusement. It would likely be the case, he expected, but it was hard to tell the size a wolf would become at such a young age. “Would you like to try the tactic?”
Barin looked up towards his Uncle, as he offered him a chance to try and test his tactic. A little, mischievous grin grew on his face, as he didn't say another word. He tried as quickly as he could, to climb up on his Uncle's shoulders. His fur was much easier to climb than his own father's, and was on top of his Uncle's head before he knew it.
He then started to nip and tug on his Uncle's ears, and Kane couldn't help but burst out in laughter. "Hey, you offered him the chance Uncle."
Barin's little tail continued to wag in delight, enjoying the view on his Alpha's head, and tugging on him as well. "I will be victorious!"
Alcatraz was surprised when Barin just scrambled right up onto him, but he supposed that worked! He crouched a bit, shifting to make it easier for the pup, and then leaned down under the weight, and so he would have further to fall if he lost his balance. Alcatraz winced, growling a bit with laughter as the puppy teeth bit into his ears. He tried to refrain from shaking his head, so not to send Barin flying. It was harder than it seemed, though, this kid could bite! “I did,”
he answered the white wolf, and then proceeded to (carefully) fall down onto his belly. “Gaah!”
he finally jerked his head sharply to the side, in hopes of dislodging the large pup.
Barin was holding tight onto his Uncle's ear as hard as he could. His uncle's strength was great though, and he was able to make Barin break his grasp on his ear. The little pup tumbled onto the ground, but quickly got up, with his tail still wagging in delight. Kane watched as his son got back up, noticing the determination in his son's play. He definitely had the promise of a Warden in his soul, and it was something Barin was clearly yearning for.
The little pup waddled over to his uncle as quickly as he could, and jumped to nip and tug on the large wolf's chin. "I shall be victorious!"
He shouts were also filled with giggles, as his little paws pressed up against his Uncle.
There was momentary relief when Alcatraz successfully dislodged Barin and the little pup tumbled to the ground. The Alpha smirked. But Barin wouldn’t be held back, leaping right back up and lunging forward, nipping at his chin. “A persistent one!”
Alcatraz mused, then plunged his head downward with jaws wide, hoping to close his mouth gently around Barin’s side to tickle him with his teeth.
Barin shouted in glee with giggles and laughter, as his uncle started to tickle his little body with his teeth. "Uncle Alcatraz! That tickles!"
The little pups put his tiny paws on the large wolf's muzzle, trying to play back at Uncle Alcatraz, despite his tickles being very effective for him.
Kane walked over towards the two duo, sitting beside his Alpha, as he stayed quiet for a few moments, enjoying the sound of his son laughing and giggling with glee. Barin noticed that his father was right beside him, and decided that it should be a two versus one fight. "Daddy! Let's take him down together!"
Kane was a little surprised at Barin's words, but then looked over at his Uncle, with a mischievous, and playful grin. Kane reached over, and softly nipped and tugged at his Uncle's ears. He then wrapped a paw around his Uncle's neck, to pull him closer to him, to make the fight more even. "Sorry, gotta make this more fun!"
Kane spoke to his Alpha, in a playful manner, before nipping at his Uncle once more, just like when he was a pup. His tail began to wag, feeling both nostalgic, and happy, at what had become of the three wolves in the moment.
Alcatraz growled playfully. “Your father cannot save you now.”
But when the big white wolf nipped at his ears and grabbed him with a massive paw he knew that he may be incorrect. He released Barin and shoved himself to the side into Kane, hoping to knock them both over.
The one thing Kane was not expecting, was his Uncle letting go of Barin, and focusing on himself. If Barin wasn't there, many would assume that the two wolves playing were pups. Barin stood there for a moment, watching the two adults play fight. "Go get him daddy!"
Barin yipped in excitement, as he soon ran over to the two wolves, and joined in the fray.
The little pup wiggled his body around the flailing paws of the two adults, and found a perfect way to join in. Barin soon was giggling, as he playfully nipped at his Uncle's cheek fluff.
Alcatraz wrestled Kane until little Barin came up and began to nip his cheeks. He withdrew with a playful grunt. “Two on one are not the best odds.”
he said, sitting up with a bit of a yawn. It was fun sometimes to let loose and play, something that he would never had done before he had been a father himself. He was a stern and gruff Alpha, but in a pack like Aryn often full of pups it was easy to let the tension fall every so often.
Kane laughed as his Uncle withdrew, admitting that there was no way that he was going to win a two on one fight. The large white male stood up, thinking that it was funny how his Uncle, the Alpha of Aryn, couldn't handle a two on one fight with a pup."I'm sure the great Lord Alcatraz can handle almost any battle."
Kane then walked over to his Uncle, and placed his forehead with his Alpha' s. Barin noticed this action that the two wolves did, and was very curious. "Why do you do that? Putting each other's forehead together."
Kane looked over to his son, smiling at his curiosity. "It's a way to bond together. A way that you show that you trust, or love them."
Barin became even more curious, jumping up and down in excitement. "I want to do it!"
Barin ran over to his father, as Kane lowered himself with a smile. Barin pushed his forehead as hard as he could, feeling so happy as he did so. Kane's smile was still evident, as he enjoyed this moment to bond with his son. The little pup then ran over to his Uncle, and jumped up and down in front of Alcatraz. "I want to do one with you as well!"
Barin's face was filled with glee, as his little puppy eyes looked straight at his alpha.
Alcatraz chuffed in amusement at Kane’s comment. Alcatraz was a very experienced fighter, it was true. But declining the fight had little to do with the actual odds, more to do with his own nature. While he had changed a bit over the years, he still could only play so much. Alcatraz looked at Barin when he asked about the gesture and then he pressed his forehead against his father’s. When the pup approached Alcatraz lowered his own head, bracing himself for something similar to what had looked to have been the headbutt that Kane received.
As his Uncle lowered his head, Barin jumped over to him, and gave his a push of his forehead with his. His body was so tiny, as he playfully pushed himself at his Uncle. Barin then moved over, and gave him a kiss on the cheek. "I love you, Uncle Alcatraz."
His little tail was moving profusely, as his little eyes were filled with sparkling glee and joy.
All Kane could do was smile, as he walked over to the duo. "You'll have to get use to it. He practically loves and admires everyone in Aryn right now."
Kane chuckled, as his son paid little attention to what his father said, continuing to give his Uncle, his Alpha, affection.
Alcatraz smiled at the pup and then lifted his head to look at Kane, chuckling at his comment. “Doesn’t that sound familiar,”
Alcatraz remembered how affectionate and admiring Kane had been of his older packmates when he was young as well. “Like father, like son.”
