review: Be Kind Rewind
We live in an age where Hollywood doesn't give two shits about being original and inspiring, and instead, has their minds set on spiritless remakes or whatever ideas they think will make the most money. And it's a breath of fresh air to get a movie like this in such depressing times for the box office. The idea is original, and it's also got good social commentary. Mos Def stars as Mike, who works at a video store called "Be Kind Rewind", which is run by Mr. Fletcher (Danny Glover). When Mr. Fletcher needs to leave town for a while, he writes a message with his finger on the glass saying "Keep Jerry Out", but he writes it on the wrong side, M

review: Idiocracy
I've always been a big admirer of Mike Judge and his work. From Beavis and Butt-head, to King of the Hill, to Office Space. The man is truely talented. Around 2005/06-ish, I heard that he was making a new movie, and I said "Oh boy! A new Mike Judge film!". Well those weren't my exact words, but it somehow slipped pass me. And I didn't even know the movie was out until my brother told me he watched on TV once. Last night, I was able to catch it on Cinemax, and all I can say is........Wow, Mike Judge, you really let me down here. The movie is about a guy named Joe Bauers (played by Luke Wilson). He gets his position as an army librarian lost, a

review: Atlantic Records 50th
Well, I decided to do a music review, so here goes: Founded in 1948 by Ahmet Ertegün and Herb Abramson, Atlantic Records started out as strictly an independent R&B and jazz record label. But it did also release a few country western records, and they eventually expanded their repertoire to a number of different genres throughout the decades. Around the mid 50's, Ahmet Ertegün was joined by his brother Nesuhi, and Jerry Wexler. Also on board was engineer Tom Dowd. Atlantic's first major star was Ray Charles, who had a number one single with them in the late 50's with the classic, "What'd I Say". After that, Bobby Darin (who was sign

review: Art of Fighting anime
Art of Fighting......it's definately one of the most important games on the Neo Geo, and also one of the first ones made for it. It introduced us to alot of great characters. In addition to the protagonists Ryo Sakazaki and Robert Garcia, it also had the lovely "King", and the highly underrated "John Crawley". Man, I wish I had 9 dollars so I could buy some Wii points and get it for the Virtual Console. I never knew they had made an anime until 2003, and I was so anxious to watch it! I finally got it on DVD in August of that year. I couldn't wait to watch it. And this was one of the BIGGEST, LETDOWNS, EVER. You'd think that being this is an a

review: Bubble Bobble - Saturn
If you've never heard of Bubble Bobble, then there is really something wrong with you. It's only one of the greatest games of all time. Originally an arcade game released by Taito in late 1986, it appeared on a number of home systems such as the MSX, Commodore 64, NES, Sega Master System, Game Boy, Game Gear, a bunch of systems, and it spawned 4 sequels. It's main characters Bub and Bob are also pretty much Taito's mascots based on what I've seen over the years (them appearing next to the Taito logo on Taito's official japanese site, their cameos in other Taito games, etc.) In 1996, Acclaim Entertainment enlisted british developer Probe to de

review: Space Invaders-Saturn
I think it's obvious Space Invaders needs no introduction. It's one of the most popular and well-known games of all-time. It was originally an arcade game released in 1978 by Taito, and over the years, it appeared on a number of home consoles. In 1996, Taito released a "Space Invaders" for the Sega Saturn in Japan only. Now one of my recent import game purchases was a two pack that included "Puzzle Bobble 2X" and the Saturn SI game. I could've just got Puzzle Bobble 2X by itself, but I was curious about the Space Invaders game, so I bought the two pack with Puzzle Bobble and Space Invaders. It was only $5 extra. Anyway, so I got the package t

review: Dark Castle
IT'S DARK! IT'S DANGEROUS! IT'S DOWNRIGHT DEVIOUS! You've got smarts, a buff bod, and a pocket full of rocks. Now, climb the ramparts of Dark Castle and dethrone the Black Knight. Hosts of nasty creatures protect him. Dispatch these lackeys or the Black Knight will eat your lunch. This is the description on the back of the box for Dark Castle, a game Electronic Arts released for the Sega Genesis in 1991. This is one of the worst games of all time. It's up there with Big Rigs and Superman 64. You play the role of this guy who looks like Shaggy from Scooby Doo, and he travels to Dark Castle to defeat the Black Knight, and he must go through th

review: Mega Man - Game Gear
I've been a big fan of the blue bomber since 1996. That same year, I discovered a few Mega Man games I didn't even know existed. One of which was this game. I would see it in the little game catalogs that you'd find in various game magazines, and this game was listed as "Best of Mega Man 1-5", and I was thinking it was a collection of the first 5 Mega Man games on one Game Gear cartridge. I never saw a screen shot of this game until 1997, one year later, and I only saw the title screen. And the game was just called Mega Man, not "Best of Mega Man" or whatever. I never got to actually PLAY the game or see it in ACTION until 1998, when I learne

review: Gradius II Arcade
My first encounter with the Gradius franchise was in either 1990 or 1991, when I played Nemesis on the Game Boy. My second was when I had played Gradius III on the Super Nintendo. I didn't realize that both games were related immediately, but I eventually did. I never played the original Gradius until 1998, when I bought the NES version at a pawn shop while on vacation. I never played Gradius II, IV or Gaiden until I got the Gradius Collection for PSP last year, and I think that Gradius II - Gofer no Yabou is the best of the series. The game hit arcades in 1988, a year after that CRAPPY MSX Gradius 2 was released. The game was released in Eur

review: Star Trek IV
Alright, let me start by saying that I am NOT a Star Trek fan, BUT when I saw a trailer for this movie on youtube, I felt REALLY compelled to see it, so I eventually bought the 2-Disc Special Edition DVD a few weeks later, and you can get it for really dirt cheap. I think I got my copy for $8 plus shipping. :D Anyway, the movie was directed and co-written by Leonard Nimoy, Mr. Spock himself. In this film, an alien probe is attacking the earth, and Kirk and The Enterprise crew on board a stolen Klingon warship can only stop them. They discover that the only way to stop them is with Humpback Whales. So they go back in time to the year 1986 (als

review: Lethal Enforcers
In the early 90's, when I was a small child. I thought this game was THE SHIT. First time I played it was when my older brother rented the Genesis version, and I fucking loved it. The digitized graphics, the music, the voices, everything. It was fun to play back in 1992/93, and it's still fun to play to this day. Without it, we wouldn't have games like Time Crisis or Virtua Cop or any of those. The game is set in modern day Chicago. You're a newly recruited police officer, and you're objective is simple:Clean up the town from the scum that terrorize it. There's 5 stages starting with foiling a simple bank robbery, followed by stopping an assa

review: Konami Antiques - MSX
The Action Replay for the Sega Saturn is a great device to own. You can play any import Saturn game on it no problem. One of the import Sega Saturn games I own, not to mention one that I purchased only a couple months back, is "Konami Antiques - MSX Collection". I haven't tried all the games on it yet, because many of them don't look too interesting, and I've played alot of MSX Roms on emulators, and most MSX games look like shit. Anyway, these are the games on it: - Konami's Boxing - Konami's Ping Pong - Hyper Sports 2 - Hyper Sports 3 - Konami's Golf - Konami's Billiards - Konami's Tennis - Konami's Soccer - Konami Rally - Road Fi

review: Top Gun - NES
I had known about this game for years, but I never got to play it until 1998. I was a bit afraid to like it or be a fan of it, because I wasn't a fan of the movie at the time. But the more I played it, the more I liked it. I've been a fan of this game long before I was a fan of the film. I didn't even become a fan of the film until 2002. Anyway, let's get to the review:This game has nothing to do with the movie, but based on the intro from the second Top Gun game (Top Gun:The Second Mission, also a good game), you ARE Maverick flying the plane. Maverick must complete 4 missions:The first mission is a training mission high up in the sky. The s

review: Transformers 2007
My grandfather took me out today, and I decided to see this movie in theaters a second time. I was never much of a fan of the full-length features that Michael Bay directed, but he did direct some cool music videos, like Gregg Allman's "I'll Be Holding On" (from the movie "Black Rain"), and Meat Loaf's "I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)" (in addition to the other two videos from "Bat Out Of Hell II"), however, Bay really surprised me with this film. It was a really great and fun movie. It was so good that that's why I felt the need to see it in theaters a second time. I wouldn't exactly say Bay did his homework for this film, bec

review: Power Stone
Last Thursday, I was out with my grandfather, and he took me LATE birthday shopping. One of the things I got while at the mall was "Power Stone Collection" for the PlayStation Portable. That collection was where I had played Power Stone 2 for the first time ever, and I thought it sucked. But when I decided to play the original Power Stone game on the collection, I remembered how awesome it was, even though the last time I played it was when I played the arcade version several months earlier. Anyway, this made me wanna dust off the Dreamcast and fire up the original disc again. Really fun game. Alright, onto the review: Back in 1999, when Pow

1996...What an interesting year.
1996... That was quite a year. Lots of things (some good, others very bad) happened. Bill Clinton was re-elected, The Onion (which I don't think I've ever read) made it's debut, Sublime's legendary posthumous self-titled album (not their best, but still good) was released, The Ramones played their last show ever during that year's Lollapalooza, 2Pac was killed, An unknown 6 year old named JonBenet Ramsey was murdered and became a big news story (that poor kid! It's so sad she had to die so young.), Duke Nukem 3D was unleashed on the world, my 10th birthday occured, and I don't remember what happened on it, Mr. Big relased their timeless maste

Why must I have constant bad luck????
I just found out that VH1 Classic had FINALLY aired Gregg Allman's "I'll Be Holding On" music video from the "Black Rain" soundtrack, and I missed it! I can't believe it! It's not my fault that I don't watch VH1 Classic as much as I did back in 2002, mainly because nowadays that channel is usually BORING. Man, I can't fucking believe this. I spend two years trying to get a video I never saw played, they finally play it, and I fucking missed it. DAMMIT! SHIT!

Happy 20th birthday to............ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's right. It was 20 years ago today that I came into this beautiful world that God created. It feels good to be 20. And I got the iPod video yesterday as an early birthday present. It's great. My mother thinks the quality of the videos on it looks better than the TV. It's even gonna get better tomorrow!
