How to Suggest a Daily Deviation ( DD )Although there are other news articles on this subject, it is still unclear to a lot of people how and what to suggest for a DD.
i will guide you through the process step-by-step
What kind of images should i suggest?
no absolute answer here, but you should suggest something that stands out from the crowd. Something with either an unique concept, quality or beauty.
Browsing the DD section for a while could give you an idea, though art and taste is subjective.
It is ok to suggest a friends piece, but don`t do it just because its a friend, do it if the piece is excellent.
Who am i gonna suggest it to and what should i write?
http://help.deviantart.com/18/ has the list of all the gallery directors and what category they are "attached" to, all you need to do is check the category the image is in, and take it from there.
Under the image you want to suggest is a thumb code ( under page views )
Lets say you want to suggest for a daily deviation, you copy the thumb co
Photographing your artwork - Technique and ApproSometimes, artwork can be too big or too oddly shaped to fit into a flatbed scanner. Scanning an artwork in sections and piecing it together afterward is always an option, but it can be difficult if the piece can't sit flush against the scanners recessed glass at all edges. Scanners have an incredibly short focal range. If the image is raised even one millimeter off of the surface, it will become terribly out of focus. Piecing together an image, without it being time consuming, can typically produce inaccurate results compared to the real work.
For this reason, it can typically be recommended that you photograph larger artworks to get the WHOLE image, faithfully, in one go. Photographing artwork isn't like scanning an image, though. There are a lot of conditions that can greatly affect the quality result of your shot. Scanners generate their own light in a closed space. This gives you a uniform result every time. Photography, however, relies heavily on the lighting within the room, or
Art is PersonalEvery day a number of daily deviations are chosen, numerous feature articles are submitted and countless journals of thumbnails published. Every - single - devious day this happens - community members, volunteers and staff all come together and share in a love of art. It doesn't always go well and sometimes a piece of artwork I adore, strikes the wrong chord with someone else and vice versa but regardless of the message received the artwork achieved the goal of becoming personal and striking an emotion. There are no rules that state this emotion should always be happy and fluffy. I'm personally inspired by a different kind of image, one that challenges my feelings and ideals and sometimes, ones that make me uncomfortable. Art is powerful but above all it is personal and after so many years on deviantART, as an artist and staff member, I've seen it time and again in varying ways.
As an artist, my art is very personal. Every image I create tell
Featuring artists who deserve more attention...2And here is another feature of artists who deserve more attention and if you
like their work, then fav their work or even watch them and support them.
They all answered with thumbnails at my forum thread, so I gave them
feature. Unfortunately I couldn't feature them all... If you like this article
and features then please support it by faving it. Or if you would like a
feature, I make "Do you want a feature ?!" journal every month, so
you're always welcome to post thumbs in it. Older news articles with
this kind of features you can see below.

Anime is not art?Long time no news post, however something has grabbed my attention as of late.
Something i believe is worth writing about. Someone boldly stated to me: 'Anime is not Art fool!' and i replied, slightly irritated, 'Anime is art! if its not, tell me what is!'
And then there was some heated debate which I wont go into details with. But it did get me thinking:
a) Why dont people consider anime art?
b) Can anime really be considered a legitimate art form?
I guess to understand this we'll need a little context. Get out your history books kiddos!
When i think manga i think cartoons, however its origins go much further back then that (800 years!), and began as drawings in temples. The pictures can be considered forerunners of modern day manga because of their hard edged, often exaggerated contour. In the 1600's this new style of drawing began to be replicated on wooden blocks, and by the 1700's books began to be developed.
