Historic Jasmine

Disney's live-action Aladdin movie is coming up this year and I am still 0% impressed with the looks of it so far.  So I felt like redoing my original historically accurate Jasmine design to match my other realistic Jasmine costume concepts I drew last year.  I referenced the fashion from the Abbasid Sultanate for her clothing, particularly the work of the Arabic artist Al-Jaziri, whose art is an excellent resource for anyone attempting this period.   Jasmine's outfit of a short gown over salwar trousers shows up regularly in the period, especially for women who are in informal settings around men they don't know...like a certain street rat, for instance!

I have also drawn 13th century versions of Jasmine's slave costume and betrothal costume, be sure to check them out!

I imagine a medieval version of Jasmine would at least *try* to look modest...even if she doesn't quite succeed! :D

Thank you!  There's not enough art of medieval Arab clothing so it was time to step up haha

Your work is very valuable, and (I think) important; bringing a pleasant slap of reality to a lot of people long-deluded by a steady diet of Disney.

It really should be on Bored Panda and get a few more (thousand) views.
I'm a Bored Panda user and should be able to put it up there. Or talk to Them and encourage Them to run your story as a feature.

Let me know if that in in tune with your infinite.

Thanks, that would be awesome!  If you are able to post it just send me the link so I can see it there. :)

I'll do my best, but cannot guarantee it'll 'take off'.

Can I ask of you - to select 12~15 of the ones you love the most, and make the strongest points re historical accuracy vs Disneyfication/distortion/ sanitation of history. And any taking points thereon, if you have the time.

Otherwise i'll run thru them and pick up your own commentaries.

Okay to add a link to your Dev.Art? Okay to refer to you only as "Wickfield" or do you want to be acknowledged by real-word name?

I think that's all.  Sorry to throw a workload at you, but YOU MUST HAVE OWNERSHIP!

Stay in touch. Exciting!
