Dankeschön.
Hm, naja, so ungefähr zwei Wochen.

this is awesome, i love the idea and the amount of white vs black. i have also done a piece like this in a similar way, though i will give you my spin on it.

black piece of paper, sketch out what you want keeping in mind you'll be cutting it like you were carving a pumpkin, so all pieces must connect somehow. carefully cut all your pieces (i use a sharp xacto knife) then flip over so that any remaining pencil lines are on the back and the image has been flipped facing the opposite way. find an interesting piece of paper or board that will compliment the carving well, or cut individual pieces of colored paper and make it look like stained glass, carefully attaching on the underside. stick it in a frame and voila! a finished piece.

:) thank you!
instead of drawing on the black paper (which leads to end up with an inverted artwork) i place the sketch (lines on white printer-paper) over the black paper, held in place by using a very mild adhesive (not a glue!!!!).
for the cutting job the best by far is a surgical scalpel. try it! but be aware of the fact, that the very sharp blade cuts all and everything; including the surface of the workbench and your fingers.... i've prooven that, believe me.
and yes, you're right; all remaining black portions have to have connections, otherwise you'll have to restart from the very beginning. ;)

ouch... i'm a proven klutz and i can just imagine carving my finger with a scalpel. XD where can one acquire such a tool? i dont imagine you can walk into a "doctor retailer" and just buy a knife.

hm.. never thought about cutting over the drawing on a separate piece of paper, that sounds like it would work good, though i'd be afraid after all the big pieces were cut out it'd be a little shifty. here's a thought i just had: transfer paper. you could just lightly retrace the outlines of your work over the black and cut them out that way, too.

hah, all this talk makes me want to do another one of these!

scalpel: at least here in europe it's easily to find in shops for doctors...
transfer-paper: yes, could work. but my eyes aren't the best (after all those years gone by ;)) and i fear i would'nt see where to cut.

yes, do a fresh one! and show afterwards! :)

my eyes are terrible too :giggle: ah well.
there's a local art store that has a bunch of art knives, but no shops anywhere that i know of that sell doctor supplies, but i'm only 15 mins from Boston so i'll ask around.

i'll have to butcher up some black paper and let you know when i've got something out of it ;)
