The color choice of background is intriguing, giving it the feel of browning/aged paper. This, combined with drawing style, reminds me of the art on old East Asian scrolls. The analogy here made me quite shocked to find figure out what you actually drew. The individual elements in isolation feel strange/caricature-like - and the consistency in the drawing style pulls it all together - but this is not what you would see in the scrolls I mentioned above. The first impression is basically a “double-take”, and that makes it captivating.
I love the way you used two simple colors - black and white - to create the image. It is beautifully textured and beautifully drawn. In fact, the way the prints are off alignment doesn’t bother my OCD-like tendencies; it just works so well, as it adds dimension to it.
Composition-wise, I have a few problems with it. First, I feel like the teddy bear is just tacked on. I think the composition is stronger without it: it holds just enough visual weight to offset the balance of the composition to the right, which I don’t really like, as it makes it just a little too overwhelming.
Likewise, the sun is a little too strong visually. It holds so much weight that it draws my vision in and just holds it there because its such a solid white. Even though everything else is so detailed, it’s subtle detail, meaning while I want to be able to go around and inspect the drawing, I just want to stare at the sun. It just makes it harder to look around at the rest of the piece and admire it as a whole.
