Story: (Delicious in Dungeon): Marcille's Malleable Mishap Part 2

Senshi stepped forward, arms folded. “Hm.”

Laios tilted his head.

Chilchuck, arms crossed, deadpanned, “Oh look. Just another one of those ancient living wall paintings.”  (A subtle playful payback for when Marcille laughed when Chilchuck was squished previously)

Laios gave a thoughtful nod. “Hmm. This one does seem oddly familiar. Must be an elf from the third magical era.”

They turned and started to walk off.

“Oi! Don’t just leave me here!!” Marcille called.

Chilchuck sighed dramatically, “Our only healer… now available in poster format.”

Laios cheerfully wandered back and began to carefully peel her off the wall. It was surprisingly easy—like removing a stubborn sticker.

Marcille gave them both the flattest (literally) unamused look she could manage as Laios gently rolled her up like a scroll.

“Guess we need to go find another team with a healer,” Chilchuck said dryly, patting the rolled-up Marcille under Laios’ arms.

“Oh, ha ha,” Marcille replied, her voice now coming from a tightly-coiled magical elf-tube.

As they continued on, Marcille flopping softly with each of Laios’ steps, Senshi offered helpfully:

“If we steam her in a bamboo basket, she might return to her original shape faster.”

Marcille: “WHAT.”

Chilchuck: “Don’t tempt him.”

Laios: “Actually, that’s not a bad idea—steam has restorative properties, right?”

Senshi stroked his beard. “With a hint of ginseng... it’s worth testing.”

“Not helping,” Marcille grumbled, completely unamused.

As luck would have it, their good fortune hadn’t run out just yet. Just around the next corner, they ran into a friendly adventuring party who, after one very awkward exchange of confused stares and poorly-contained laughter, gladly offered to help.

With a quick restoration spell—and some light stretching—Marcille slowly puffed back to her original form.

She dusted herself off, cheeks red. “I never want to be two-dimensional again.”

Chilchuck smirked. “At least now you understand the full range of magical trap hazards. Welcome to the club.”

Laios added with a grin, “Also, you were surprisingly light.”

Marcille glared. “I’m going to remember this. Just so you know.”

But as they continued deeper into the dungeon, it was with a lighter step—and a shared laugh still echoing down the corridor behind them.

Remarks:

Did ya'll realise how many times Marcille's hairstyle changed throughout season 1 at least, I only realised when I started drawing her, and went "hey! why does this look different from what I drew?"

I ultimately settled with this hairstyle from season 1 episode 9 as I thought it was what looked best on her.

There may be some other subtle inconsistencies, to which I did not feel like checking or fixing. I just hope there isn't like any story critical ones that I have not noticed.

What actually caught my attention when seeing clips of the show before actually watching the show, was the whimsical creatures of the dungeon. I particularly liked the Treasure Insects and Living Armours. I found them really interesting and creative.

One aspect that I also liked when I watched the show was the concept of "Not being able to fully 'unalive' in the dungeon" and how it was expressed. The story would illustrate how it sounds like a blessing, but is actually a curse. This provides a good contrast of two opposing ends, giving the dungeon a deceitful safety net, while being the true danger of the dungeon.
