A combination of "what-if", aircraft and craftsmanship:
A skillful creation depicting imaginary aircraft.

If you like to invent aircraft, this is the place for you!

Whether you doctor existing photos to create new types, build the aircraft in CG, scratchbuild models in card or plastic, or use traditional artwork, your creations are most welcome here.

Please read the rules below and feel free to watch this group, submit to it or join it as a member!

1) Any kind of media is accepted: traditional artwork, computer graphics, photomanipulation, scale modeling, Lego, anything so long as what you depict is not a representation of reality.

2) The purpose of this gallery is to feature work that shows a high standard of craftsmanship, artistry. and originality. Therefore all submissions will be examined but not necessarily accepted.

3) Although it is not always an easy to do, please try as much as possible to indicate the copyright and/or origin of somebody else's work (photo, texture, logo...) if you are using it in your own work.

4) The focus here is not so much on science-fiction than past or present aviation. If you create futuristic aircraft, it is best if they keep some kind of connection to the real world, i.e. preferably existing (or plausible) countries and no alien technologies!!

5) Works related to existing anime or TV series does not belong here, so please do not submit any ships related to Gundam, Patlabor, Battlestar Galactica for instance. Let's avoid copyright infringement as much as possible... Thanks!

6) It is possible to submit work depicting real-world projects that never came to fruition. You can also submit imaginary versions of real-life aircraft, but in the latter case, approval will depend on the originality and visibility of the result.

7) Please don't submit tens of pics at once! I don't want to put limitations on submission, so try and be reasonable and submit reasonable amounts...

8) Please submit to "Featured" only if there isn't a better category. Drop-down menu offers access to other galleries such as "Scratchbuilt models", "Profiles and Plans", etc.
If some of the works deserve to appear as "Featured" items (i.e. the ones that deserve to be seen in the main page to attract newcomers). I prefer to be the one to pick them. Main page has to look professional and varied!

9) Pics that are too small or do not show the model well enough will not be accepted.

10) Multiple pics of the same models are often redundant. I'd rather pick only the best one for this group!

11) The focus being on aircraft, I prefer to leave out the pics with funny characters (a mix of serious looking aircraft and caricature-like chara seems weird; however, we could create a specific gallery for "funny" drawings if there is enough material for that).

12) It's cool if you don't just submit your own work but also that of other Deviants. It's the best way to discover new talents and make their work known better.

If you have any questions of any sort, please feel free to contact me at bispro(a) !
I really believe WHIFCRAFT features some of the very finest imaginary aircraft artwork the web has to offer, and it is to put to the credit of all the talented artists here on deviantART... but not only! It wouldn't be possible without all the contributors who see the art, love it, and think it would be great to add it to our galleries for others to enjoy!

These past few weeks have been a little disheartening, as very few images have been submitted. Two, three a week, maybe... Have deviantART artists run out of ideas? I don't believe so!

This group is not about one person providing daily images for your enjoyment. It's about YOU... (yes, YOU!!!) sharing with other appreciators the latest nuggets you've found so we can build up a coherent and enjoyable collection of the very best aircraft creations deviantART has to offer! Artists of course can (and do) share their work on occasion... but it's such a mark of appreciation if YOU enjoy their work and submit it to a group such as WHIFCRAFT for others to see just how good they are!

So do these artists a favor, and make their work known and submit the greatest images you find to WHIFCRAFT. They'll be grateful you did, and the whole WHIFCRAFT community (91 Members, 144 Followers so far) will be pleased to view these new additions on a more regular basis! Also if you have friends with an interest in imaginary aircraft, invite them to join us... The more, the whiffier!

Seems like this group is dead now. Or maybe the admin is hardly ever on anymore.

Hi! Group's not dead by I was away from dA for almost a year.
I may not have time to do as much as I used to, but I'll try.
Meanwhile, I'll be looking for folks with an interest in co-administering Whifcraft and make a pick or two.

If you dont have anything against it I would like to affiliate our groups.

My newborn group is specialised on high detailed military illustrations (including aviation) and it will host only the finest deviations and will gather some of the most talented artists.

I sent the request. You have to confirm it. In fact it would be better to send an affiliation request from your side if you have some voting procedure and some administrators are absent or if the request expires in the meanwhile.

You should also consider to join us

And yes pls. add the Affiliates section if you agree.

I don't know if this group is still active, but it seems an appropriate place to ask a question I've pondered for several years. Not being an aeronautical engineer myself, I'm hoping someone(s) on this list might have something more solid than my ruminations.

For my question, assume the following: You discover a method of travelling back in time to America in January 1942. **Ignoring all arguments or considerations about timeline pollution or paradoxes**, you decide to go back with a design for a fighter craft that will give America a huge advantage in the air war of that day. Your criteria are that your design:
1. Must be able to be built with materials and technology available in January of 1942 (small hedge: if your design requires a new method of using then-existing materials or tech, that's fine, but you can't suddenly have a transistor)
2. Must be superior to existing aircraft designs available (the idea is for America to abruptly have commanding control of the skies)
3. Must be feasible (I'm sure a disk-bodied VTOL would have been cool, but not as a fighter craft against a Zero)

Other than that, you have free reign. Swept-wing? Go for it. Pusher-prop? Sure. Any takers?

Is there a reason why I am unable to join the group?  I'm already following your group and have submitted 3 deviations before but now it won't let me. Just wondering because I have 2 more I want to submit...

There's no reason I can see for such a thing to happen. Weird.
Please let me know if the problem is still there or if it's working now...
