a Sietch on Arrakis - DUNE 01 by where-I-Am a Sietch on Arrakis - DUNE 01 by where-I-Am
A sietch is a house in the rocks. The inhabitants are the Fremens of the Desert of Dune, the planet of sands.
I am inspired by a novel of Frank HERBERT named DUNE in 7 books.
this work required much time ... months ...
And it's my first digital painting.

here [link] the stages of this composition

In first, Thank you DA, to have enabled me to improve my written English. ( have better results at the school after DA influences ^^)
Thanks for everybody support my work. And all 'addicts' about Dune...
Thanks to ^Aeires.
Thanks F.Herbert...

Done in a wide screen layout, a Sietch on Arrakis - DUNE 01 by ~where-I-Am gives us a great perspective of the never ending dunes. Great looking curves to the dunes and how the use of warm elements of sand meet cool elements of the sky in this vast expanse. ( Featured by Aeires )

Nice picture!

I would like to ask, if you would give me a permission of using this picture in a fan made expansion to Dune card game?
If you do, what artist name do you prefer to use?…

Great panorama view of the whole desert, really captures the overall feeling of being on Arrakis.

The colour scheme and compostion are really eye-catching and eye-pleasing.

Awesome stuff!

Sort of don't know how to start but let me just express my sincere admiration for your work.

I'm a student of linguistics and as to receive credit from one of my courses I have to prepare a dictionary. Since my MA dissertation is on translations of Dune I thought I would prepare a dictionary of terms used in Herbert's book. And now a humble question to you. Could I use this picture as the front page of the dictionary? I'd be most grateful.

The horizon looks amazing! :) And the sietch looks exactly like in Dune computer game (the first and original one), but i don't remember how it looked in Lynch's adaptation. It's great. :)

don't you think that it would be a little bit flashy sietch? O_o
even a harkonen would find it without much effort xD
in any case, the drawing has been brilliant, great job! =3

Vampirneko Featured By Owner Oct 1, 2007  Professional Digital Artist
oh, well, don't destroy it, always it's possible to used it as pretence -and thus laid an ambush for the baron's men =P

excuse my terrible english, pliz ^^U
where-I-Am Featured By Owner Oct 1, 2007
until this day I thought that was my english which was very very very (veryvery) bad.
So now, hum... i don't know... i love the rabit of my neighbour ...
do you know the classical sentence "where is brian" "brian is in the kitchen"? f***** lessons of english!
that's why I prefered run away in sands with freemens ^^

It's pretty, and a startling accurate landscape to boot. The prevailing winds have been blowing the sand towards that mountain ridge for hundreds of years building up those large dunes you see next to the mountains while the desert to the left of them is flat in comparison. Fantastic attention to detail.
Good job, love the colors.
It is at once serenely beautiful and startling desolate.

Beautiful painting, one nerdish nitpick though, shouldn't the sky have a silver tint to it if its Arrakis, theres no moisture in the air.
Matriaya Featured By Owner Aug 1, 2007
That is simply fantastic. Excellent attention to detail. ^_^

Superbe image... =)

Mais je préfère certaines compositions précédentes présentes dans tes recherches (particulièrement celles avec un ciel "chaud"...)

J'ai modifié la photo d'une femme voilée cet après-midi pour en faire une femme fremen:

Pourrais-tu me donner ton avis? :blushes:

Oh my god this is simply amazing. :eyepopping: The colors are beautiful and blend very well together. When I saw the thumbnail I thought that you had simply photomanipulated a few pictures together, lol imagine my suprise and awe when I saw you did this with simply airbrushing and such. What programs did you use? Very nice, especially for this being your first digital painting. This one is defiently getting faved.
