Shape of Water

So this image is a little odd, I'm aware. And yet I love it to bits.

I've spent years attempting to make paperweights in glass and make realistic flowers inside of them. This one came out rather nice but I noticed once it had cooled that it had a -lot- of lines within. In Swedish it's called "sliror" - slithers or slips. I don't know the English term for them.

They happen when the glass in the crucible holds impurities, different types of glass mixing and not breaking the light the same way - or when the glass put in haven't melted enough to become homogenous.

Safe to say I have never seen this amount of them and I was bummed out.
That is; until I decided to play around with a little LED light to see how all the little lines would look in different light and OH BOY did I get a lovely surprise.

The paperweight itself is uneven and a little wonky but instead of packing it away in defeat it's now sitting on my own desk on a little light base and I enjoy it a lot. The flaws turned into something magical and I love what it looks like, reminding me of my summers as a kid spent more underwater than above it. Sitting at the bottom and looking up at nature and how the light reflected down through the surface among water lilies and trees above. I used to be a veritable frog whenever we went to the nearby lake.

I love this little object, and I think it's one of my favourite things.
..And I have no idea how to recreate the effect on actual purpose. Oh well.
