The Art Photographer
by Wendy Terwilleger mensjedezeemeermin.deviantart.…
What is it about fleeting shapes—
A sudden scene that soon escapes
The world’s apathetic eye
That makes me pause, compose, deny?
I seek for color, frame the scene,
I capture, hope that it will mean
Something momentous and dense.
More than mere coincidence.
All I view cannot be art,
But so much could—
It is my part
To use my eye, and some device
To trap the scene with artifice.
Shutters whirring, flashes blasting,
Fleeting moments made more lasting,
Different angles… Perfect? Never!
Try to make it last forever…
How well I might succeed depends
Upon my skill with light, and lens.
On settings, speed, and my perception
Photoshop—and your reception.
You might learn about my soul
From this mixture, once made whole,
Do you see what appeared to me?
Pillagers of stolen light
Photographers can please, delight,
Or just bore, or frantic, flail.
All that work—to no avail.
We do our best, there’s no denying.
Comfort ourselves, “At least we’re trying
To make fleeting moments stay.”
Still—the world slips away.
I seek and prowl, my movements lag.
Beggar with a camera bag.
Seeking when light’s good or cruel,
With my lens—to trap a jewel.

The Gallery at Deviant Art is the broadest collection of my work. It also provides information on shows, exhibits, workshops, and courses that I am offering in Southern Manitoba. If you are interested, please use the contact information on the poster or brochure.
The gallery is divided into folders. When you enter the gallery, the folders are displayed on the left side of the screen. The Scraps folder, at the top contains information about displays of my work, as well as published news articles. Below that, the "Original Prints" Folder contains copies of one of a kind signed prints that have been sold, no other copies will be made available. The "Awards and Publications" folder contains images that have received public recognition or been used in the media.
The two folders below contain collections that have toured in Manitoba.
"An Olde Ride - Classics in the Rough" thaumadzo.deviantart.com/galle… is a solo collection that toured in Manitoba from 2008 to 2011. The show consisted of 33 pieces taken from the total collection. Information on the show and where it was displayed will be found on the left of the screen when you enter the folder/gallery. “An Olde Ride” was put into storage for a number of months but came down in May 2012 to show at the Gerhard Ens Gallery, at the Mennonite Historical Village, Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada. One final show was held Boissevain Manitoba, in March and April 2013. Following that event, the remaining original, signed, tour pieces have been sold or donated to charitable organizations. Pictures from this show have been sent world wide. Additional copies will not be made.
“Voice of the Pioneer,” thaumadzo.deviantart.com/galle… was a new solo collection that began to tour Manitoba in the fall of 2011. The show dates and places are listed on the left of the screen after you enter the folder/gallery. The tour ended in August 2013. Pieces from this collection will be sold or donated to charitable organizations. As with the previous collection, pieces have been sent far and wide.
The Rural and Northern Juried Art Show selected pieces of my work in 2008, 2009 and 2010 to tour the province. This is a five month tour which includes Winnipeg, Carman, Holland, Portage and Morden.
My work has been recognized by the World Wide Gala Awards (WWGA) in Landscape and Rural Photography category.
In 2011 for "Beside Peaceful Waters"
and in 2012 for "Who Has Seen The Wind"
In September 2011, More of Our Canada Magazine published a Photographic Story on "An Olde Ride" which they called "Classics in the Rough". This magazine has a national and international circulation.
