The Gay Away

Ten years ago artist Dan Parent created Archie comics' first gay character, "Kevin Keller". In a valiant attempt to break stereotypes Dan Parent did not have Kevin in the closet but rather casually announce to Jughead that he was gay (and therefore not interested in dating Veronica who was interested in him). He also stated that he hates musicals and some other interests that are often associated with gays. While I can understand where Parent was coming from I think that by making Kevin "just like everyone else" he omitted some of the 'flavor' that could make him an interesting character. My drawing here celebrates a more flamboyant Kevin.
