A cover for DC's Legend of the Dark Knight #1
This was the artwork that has taken me to the next level in my evolution of skill.
The brief gave me anxiety - Harley Quinn with a pinball machine... I was seriously worried about all the detail involved, but it wasn't long and a beast within awoke. The mission: Obliterate the anxiety by rising above it. I looked that fear in the eye and I said "I will show you just how completely unafraid of you I am". I pushed it to a point where I found the fear quite enjoyable actually because of how I could use fear to rise to the next level, using it like a trampoline to inspire the bounce upwards.
In the end, I am personally overwhelmed by the results. This artwork however didn't even receive 100% of what I can do. I just ran out of time. I had plans to still take it further.
Anyway, I just thought I would share a very personal insight into how this artwork has affected my skill level, simply by having the desire to face the fear and fill it with ridiculous love and enjoyment. Not to allow myself to be triggered into a fearful state. A fearful state puts you into "survival mode", or into "safe mode". In safe mode, you have limited access to what you can truly do.
The journey this artwork took me through, the ways I had to think, the choices I had to make, etc. opened me up to a broader level of myself that I had not quite met before. It almost communicated a fundamental of reality itself back to me about what we are actually doing here.
The name of the game on planet Earth I believe is - whenever you encounter fear, center and ground yourself, learn fears ways and learn to rise above it. This is an inner game, not an outer game like we assume it is. There is no outer reality. It's only just more of your inner reality appearing outwardly around you. This is about self mastery, meaning mastering your response to fear, realising that you are indeed the light itself.
Allow yourself the ability to shine the brightest possible and then shine even beyond that when facing your inner darkness/fears. Fear is your ally, but only when you recognise its' true purpose as your team mate to help your evolution upwards. If this is not recognised, fear will shine its brightest until you realise what it is asking for - a greater you. A brighter you.
Life is a dance of light and dark. May we shine to infinity and beyond. This is the Legend of the Dark Knight.
