This is very impressive piece, the Guard have always been my favorite faction in 40k. There is just so much diversity and the fact that they go into battle with little more than a pop gun and a flak jacket just makes them more awesome to me.

To be honest I've always wanted to see a regiment based off WWII Imperial Japan, I think there could be a lot of potential there for fluff and art.

"a regiment based off WWII Imperial Japan"

So widely and wildly incompetent?

If that's how you wanna think about then you can go right ahead, however "incompetent" is the last word I would use to describe the Japanese as a whole at any point in history.

Then you don't know their history in the Second World War.

While I would certainly never claim to be an expert on any war, I like to think that I know quite a bit about the Second World War, including Imperial Japan. You, however, seem like the kind of person who likes to let their bias and negativity spill uselessly out of their mouth. I'm a fan of military 'culture' as much as actual strategy and tactics, but looking at you profile pic and username it's not hard to see that you are one of those roman elitists and even if your not you give off that same kind of pretentious vibe. So have a nice day and good luck with that pointless negativity, I just wanted to see cool art but you seem like you just can't help but try to bring a good thing down.

It's widely known that that Japanese command, of both branches, were barely capable of tieing their shoes. The IJA more so than the IJN, but neither were exactly qualified. Ifyou want to think me some 'elitest' that's your perogitive. Doesn't stop you from being flat out wrong, but it is yours.

The Japanese, particularly in the field of logistics, repeatedly shot themselves in the foot. The army primarily relied on frontal charges and the "true spirit of the Japanese warrior" to carry the day, and the Navy wasn't much better with their "decisive battle' doctrine. These are blatantly historical *facts* that, whether you like it or not, paint the Japanese military command as errademably incompitent in the face of a modern fighting force, such as the Americans.

Actually not, Tanith 1st represents a big work on the history (for campaigns) so not ye but maybe in the future.

Have you read the books?  Dan Abnett's description of their uniforms doesn't quite square with artwork and 'Eavy Metal paint jobs.  I have to admit, I prefer the artist's style.  But I love that the book has them using halftracks, attack cycles and the odd non-Chimera APC.

I gotta find a way to make cheap and decent conversions of those guys, and represent them in the current rules.  I once heavily converted Catachans.  Kitted them out, shaved the arms down, added hair and gave them shin puttees.  They still stood out a bunch.  Wish Forge World would give them a little love.

Darndest thing is, I can't field all the characters.  There's no point where all the heroes and major supporting characters from the books are together.

I think.

We have all the book but only first one is finished. Victoria lamb Miniature is a good alternative for Tanith.

Victoria Lamb?

.....oh!

A little TOO good to be a mere 'alternative'.  Check the rifle muzzles.  Seems providing non-Citadel models for Tanith Guardsmen was her intention.

Still need officers and heavy weapons, though.
