So a while back, I came across a photoshoot that Nigel Barker did using only moonlight and mannequins. I was impressed, and loved the concept. Well a few weeks ago, I was visiting family, and noticed how amazing the moon was. I had also rented a lens for some shoots I was going to do, ad realized that it was the perfect lens for the job. I wondered if I could do what Nigel did, except with a real model. I talked my sister in law into suffering through something crazy like this, and had my brothers helping me behind the scenes. So my friend Jeremy and I have been scheming to do a photo-shoot soon, and it got me all excited again to do this kind of thing. I had started to lose heart, being weighed down with all the technical jargon I am learning in film school, and not seeing as much of the fruit as I would have wanted. I noticed that there are all kinds of people out there that know a crap load of stuff like lighting, photography, digital technology, and yet their work looks like crap..... Is art subjective? Is it up to the viewer to interpret art? Or is the artist really trying to say something? The answer?...... I think it depends on the pre-supposed purpose of the artist. Is the artist concerned with only form? Or is the artist concerned with idea also? This is important, since it will effect the perception of certain kinds of art. Movies are of course the current area of study for me, so it is what I am most focusing on. Movies are stories told through pictures and sound, making 99% of movies loaded with idea.
