Well I'll be heading back out to San Diego Comic Con again this year for work... I cannot describe to you how much it kills me inside to have to work at a convention where there are most likely going to be all sorts of shiny Hobbity experiences I'll be missing out on. I live for the hope of random encounters. her David Hasselhoff came by our booth last year... though I wanted to see Martin Freeman. And maybe Dr Who...

I'll soon be undertaking my first trip to England. I'll be in the country for the entire yuletide plus the first few days of the new year. I can't wait to explore the museums, head on over to Oxford for a bit of Tolkien geekery, see Stonehenge in person... and so much more.

Heading to San Diego Comic Con. @_@

So if you've wondered why I have been quiet that's why. I have lots of items to work on, since this is a work trip, and not a trip for my own entertainment.

Around two weeks ago, I posted notification that I had decided to run a contest to find this year's Yule cards. wanderingmage.deviantart.com/j… The deadline was this week, specifically December 5th. I think the short notice and the holidays put a bit of a crimp in the contest, but we did have three enterprising artists who managed to put together an entry despite the constrained timeline during a usually busy time of year.

:bulletred: After careful consideration this year's winner is :bulletred:
Meredyth Lady of Winter meredyth.deviantart.com/art/La…

:bulletred: Our other participants were :bulletred:

FifthEssence Light Bringer fifthessence.deviantart.com/ar…
crimsonvermillion's Winter Darkness crimsonvermillion.deviantart.c…

To all our artists I say thank you for participating!

I'm a big believer in supporting and encouraging artwork. And with the yuletide holidays around the corner, I want to be able to send out Heathen themed Yule cards for the holidays--that I haven't sent out before! Just as I might be looking for yule cards, I'm sure there may be fellow members also looking for such artwork.

So in that spirit, I personally am running a Yule Greeting Card Contest.

Artwork Guidelines

The greeting card design must be an appropriate Asatru Yule theme (i.e. please don't mix and match symbolism from other traditions.). Examples of some appropriate Asatru Themes to get you brainstorming:
:bulletred:Thor, Odin, Frau Holle, Perchta/Berchta as gift givers (i.e. the inspiration behind the Santa Claus Mythos);
:bulletred:Winterscapes with Skadhi or Ullr;
:bulletred:Saga as storyteller by the hearth fire;
:bulletred:Sunna & Mani for shortest day/longest night
:bulletred:Bedecked sumble hall with wassail wishes
:bulletred:Midwinter blot / Yule ritual / sacrifice (such as: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia…)
:bulletred:etc.

Artwork must be your own creation, and sized for a 5 inches x 7 inches greeting card

To enter your design to the contest load your artwork to your deviantart account,  then post the link to your entry in reply to my personal journal post below.

Deadline: December 5, 2011.

Once submissions are receivied, I'll then review the entries to choose a winner.

:bulletred: I will purchase 5 x 7 greeting cards of the winning design to use for my Yule cards for this year (with the caveat the artist sets the files up for purchase) - that's money, or deviant art points in your account!
:bulletred: I will ship to the winner a Valknut trinket box (featuring my own valknut design): www.etsy.com/transaction/38389…
:bulletred: I will also ship to the winner an Ullr Copper Penny (examples of which you can find in the following photo): img2.etsystatic.com/il_570xN.9…
:bulletred: The winner may also receive a couple of other surprise trinkets and miscellaneous goodies with a Heathen theme.

And yes, I'll even ship the goodies internationally! Please keep in mind though, I may not have the opportunity to ship off the goodies until the new year.

I'll be hitting Europe in a few months time, specifically the countries of Germany and Denmark. If I can track down where some of my ancestors were buried in Germany, I plan to make a visit to their cemeteries, to take pictures and rubbings of their graves, and to as a polite daughter ought, lay some flowers on their tombstones.

So many places to see, and not enough time to do it all!

Are there any places any of you have first hand knowledge of and would recommend to check out in those countries?

With Litha, or Midsummer just around the corner, I'm looking forward to this years celebrations and festivities. I'm hoping my recently commissioned Idunna blot bowl, arrives in time for me to use this Saturday. Designed by the talented Shrew, of Shrewwood.com, she also designed my very lovely mead horn depicting the Norns (Verdande, Skuld and Urd).

I've been contemplating based on the food allergies and dietary medical restrictions of those in my kindred, just wht food item I'll bring (since everyone brings something), and I think I'll make my sweet and spicy chicken apple wraps. :)

My plans of being able to do some artsy & craftsy things this holiday season were put on hold, as I had to deal with an unexpected, emergency surgery. The surgical incisions are still healing even nearly 5 weeks later, and food and I still don't always agree, but I'm doing much, much better then I was. :)

I hope everyone had a great Yuletide.

There's nothing like an outing to Fort Worth's Kimbell Art Museum to make me happy. A few months back a friend and I headed over there to partake of an impressionist exhibit they had on loan from the Art Institute of Chicago, and I absolutely, utterly became entranced by Gustave Caillebotte's Paris Street: Rainy Day. misschicago.files.wordpress.co…

The oil canvas was massive in real life, and easily towered above me, hogging an entire wall of the exhibit space to itself. In addition to Caillbeotte's work, Caspar David Friedrich's Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia…
has taken over my brain. I think it's time to come clean, and officially admit I'm obsessed with those two pieces.

My friend who's been traveling through Europe and hitting up the museums has managed to track down for me everything from journals to file folders of Friedrich's Wanderer for me.

My eye also recently caught notice, that the Kimbell will be expanding with a new building from celebrated Italian architect Renzo Piano. Yeah, even more art to enjoy in beautiful surroundings.

Oh dear, I'm starting to get my itch to go to the NY Metropolitan Museum of Art again and make a sidetrip to the Cloisters as well.

We wanted to ask if anyone has questions they'd like to know the answer of at the upcoming Tutu Event in Austin?

Here's who you can ask questions of:

Ikuko Itoh (the creator, character designer, and chief animation director)
Luci Christian (the American voice of Ahiru/Duck)
Chris Patton (the American voice of Fakir)
Jessica Boone (the American voice of Rue)
Nanae Katoh (the Japanese voice of Ahiru/Duck)
Naoki Yanagi (the Japanese voice of Mythos)

Please make it clear in the comments WHO the question is directed to!

Keep in mind, we have some answers from Itoh from her panel at Ushicon last year. So if any questions are the same from last year, we won't be asking them, since we already know.  Those questions can be found here: community.livejournal.com/prin…

We make no guarantees that we'll manage to get answers for all your questions... but we'll certainly try!

Please post questions in the comments found at the entry related to this over on the Princess Tutu community on livejournal, found here: community.livejournal.com/prin…

The creator of Princess Tutu, Ikuko Itoh will be attending a very special event in Austin, TX on January 27, 2007 as part of Ushiko's Block Party. In addition to Itoh-sensei, several of the Japanese and American voice actors will also be appearing at the event. More information is available here: www.ushicon.com

Years ago my friends and I of the Fushigi Yuugi Mailing List, put together a scrapbook for manga-ka Watase Yuu, which was given to her on her first U.S. appearance. So, I thought that wouldn't it be nice if the Tutu fans did the same?

So, I'm putting together a Princess Tutu Scrapbook (and will also deliver goodies to the Voice Actors in attendance). While the word has gone out on the PrincessTutu LJ community, and via several other groups and ML's, we didn't know about the community here at Deviant Art until I stumbled across it today.

We need letters, arts, photographs, handicrafts... and we need them quickly. So far the submissions have been few and far between. I'm extending the deadline. But please note all items must be received by Monday, January 8th (and will be shipped to me in Texas). Submission guidelines and instructions can be found here: community.livejournal.com/prin…

I've received confirmation from event coordinators that if enough of the fans are there in person, they'll arrange things so we can give this gift to Itoh-sensei as a group.

Ikuko Itoh has made special art for the event, and t-shirts featuring this art are available for purchase (whether you're able to attend or not) featuring Ahiru in her animal duck form, bursting out of a cowboy hat. To see the shirt, and inquire about ordering you can find more information here: www.ushicon.com/TutuShirt.shtm…
