I am embarrassed.

All right, then.  I can do that.

On a lighter note, love lives are terribly exciting. :aww:

Web Comics and Other Recent Obsessions

Journal Entry: Sun Jul 26, 2009, 11:45 PM
Yes, web comics.  My friend has been trying to get me to read her favorites for a long time, and I just recently started.

And may I just say they're absolutely FANTASTIC?

My favorites, which you must must MUST check out:

Two Rooks:

The Phoenix Requiem:

Do you all have any recommendations for me?  All of the above are fantasy with epic plot lines, with enough romance to keep me going.  ;P  I'm not really into manga (anime?)-style drawings, but if the plot line were good, I'd be open to anything.

As you can see from my latest poll, I'm thinking about trying to find someone to do a comic-collaboration with.  Not that I know any artists (damn me and being so stuck up about literature!), at least none that have any extra time.  Or technically know how to write for a comic in the first place, ha.  I have a new concept, which I was going to try to novelify, but I think would actually work better in a visual setting rather than entirely words - so I figured I'd give a shout-out a try and see where it led. :D

That is all.  Cheers, chaps!

Happy birthday to me, I live in a monkey...wait.

Journal Entry: Sun Jul 12, 2009, 3:44 PM
Ah, another year gone by.  I have now lived for one and seven-tenths decades. :D

I'm the last in my class to turn - one of my best friends, in fact, is turning either nineteen or twenty, I can't remember which.  My consolation is that I'm more than half a foot taller than her.  Hehe. :aww:

About to fly to Seattle tomorrow, to visit a good friend of mine, Stellaciel where we'll work on a new layout for the Ughy Club and write some more songs for our group Swallow Coat.  We only got two done last year, so if we continue at that rate we could have a debut CD, oh...never. :D It's fun work, though, so I don't mind if it comes to nothing.

I'm really glad I'm going away for a few weeks, actually.  I know you guys don't want to hear a diary entry, but I have no one to talk to during the summer, except my family, and as per usual, my family's the problem.  I told my mother last night at dinner that she was making herself unhappy, since she was having one of her "my life is horrible and it's your fault" hissy fits, and she's yet to say a word for me.  And it's my birthday.  I wonder how long she can keep it up.

Uhh...oh, yes. :D My friend Rachelle and I are collaborating on a novel together, called "The Romancing of Tuesday Dennings."  I just posted a poem I wrote for it, in fact.  I won't be posting it on dA, since it's so awkward to post longer prose and no one wants to read it anyway, but if by any chance you DO want to check it out, it's here: It's basically about a man named Simon who writes fan letters to his favorite poet, Tuesday.  I write from Tuesday's point of view, and she's a cynical joy. :D

Other than that, I will hopefully be posting a lot of new poetry once school starts again on August 1st.  Poetry class is first semester!  Have yet to hear back from the lit mags I submitted work to, but as my librarian (of all people) told me, no news is good news. :aww: So we shall see.

Cheerio, friends! Jules

I've had my blood drawn five times in the past week.  Four of which were on the same day.  Unexplained abnormal levels of free T4 hormone, the cause of which could be Hashimoto's Syndrome, Empty Sella Syndrome, or pituitary cancer.  Should know by tomorrow.

Counselor somehow persuaded me to confide in her that I was violated when I was six.  Spent the remaining fifteen minutes of our session trying to convince her that A) no, I was not traumatized and B) no, I don't have trust issues and C) no, I do not subconciously hate my mother and D) no, I'm not going to tell my mom and make her feel guilty about it ELEVEN years later.

I ask you.

But, really, I'm pretty good.  Pained and fatigued, sure, but I've been dealing with that since I first passed out back in ... what, January?  Ridiculous.

Holy baluga whales, it's been a while.

School ended six hours ago, and I've already snatched up the promised subscription my mom dangled in front of my face for the past few weeks, ever since I saw dA put up the critique feature.  I can't wait to get some useful concrit, man... *shivers with anticipation*

Junior year was pretty awesome.  Had a few kinks, but you know how it goes.  I love my school and really look forward to going back - though the fact that dA is blocked is a bummer^345, I learn too much there to pass up the opportunity...sorry guys, I know it eats you up like a flesh-eating cornflower.

Some websites for you to check out: is my free editing website.  I can edit stories, poems, research papers, name it. ;) is my personal website where my friend Stellaciel have a lot of fun.  You should check us out.  We're a party. is the newly-established writing newsletter I work for.  I'm the prompt judge and copy editor.  You should pop on by - the new writing prompt was just added!  There's a prize involved!

Here're some of my favorite books at the moment, just for fun:

Geek Love by Katherine Dunn (God, amazing.)
White Oleander by Janet Fitch (Will always be in my top three.)
Atonement by Ian McEwan (Movie was good, book's unspeakably beautiful.)
The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger (Finished it two nights ago - didn't quite make me cry, but it was good enough that even THAT didn't phase me.)
Snowflower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See
Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden

If you've read any of those, or know of books similar, drop me a line, will you?

Anyway, other than that, I'm just letting you all know I'm back in business and ready to see some art.  If you have any dA writer recommendations, that'd be awesome. :)

Signing off - What the Vulcan?! - Jules.

Effloresce, everyone!

Wow, I haven't been on deviantART in FOREVER!  It's not my fault, though, I promise; the Internet we get at school is called "dormnet" and we can't get on YouTube, DeviantART, LiveJournal.....................none of that.  It's infuriating.

I hope you'll notice the definite upturn in my poetry's quality.  I, personally, feel that I've made leaps and bounds of progress - I'm honestly not trying to brag, here, I'm trying to objectively survey my progress.  And I'm pleased. :aww:  Let's just hope I continue improving.

I'm very sorry I haven't been commenting as much as I had been in the past; I only spend every other weekend at home, and the rest of the time is at school with No. DeviantART.  But now I'm on holiday, so hopefully I'll be able to make up a fraction of my comment-deficit!

All of your feedback on my poetry and prose is greatly appreciated - I promise you, I put it to good use.

My art school is absolutely amazing, I have to say.  We might have nine hour school days, and the rest of our time might be spent PREPARING for those arduous hours, but we manage to have tons of fun.  I don't know how I'm going to survive college after two years of love-glomping, not-sleeping, futile-flirting, knit-witting (yes, knit), and art-producing.  Being surrounded by so much talent is, well, inspiring. :aww:

I'll sign off with a toodle-oo, a Merry Christmas,
and a BRING ON 2009, BABY!

Minor Life Update...

Journal Entry: Thu Jul 17, 2008, 5:37 PM
Officially Sixteen!

Yeah, haven't updated my journal in a while ... thought I'd give anyone who cared a little heads up. :aww:

So.  I'm sixteen.  Not much happened for my birthday - I refused a party and got two plane tickets as presents.  Bought myself a Wii Fit that told me I'd already killed like eight years of my life (lovely, right?).  Oh, and finally got my ears pierced!  YES, FOR THE FIRST TIME!

Right now my FictionPress account ( hehe) is gathering cobwebs.  I haven't updated my romantic comedy in over a month (gasp!) which I promised my readers I WOULDN'T DO (and now look where we are)!

I'll be going to school on the third.  I'm so excited!!  I bought a SpongeBob bed spread, and Spiderman for backup.  In my book, that means I'm all set.  Well, and redyed my hair purple.  But I would've done that boarding school or no. ;P

Time's gone really fast now that I think about it.  Not that I'm complaining.  But it's still odd - you think it'll take forever and then all of the sudden it's ... here.  And you wonder what the hell you DID with all that time.  I just know that one of these days I'm going to regret those wasted hours - but what can I do?

Aaaaaand finally, I'm pretty much screwed.  I have five assignments to complete over the summer for my literary arts classes (woo baby!) and have done ... one.  Half of one.  Because it sucks.  So I'm going to be doing those at my poor friend Sophia's house ... but she's brilliant, so hopefully that will serve as adequate inspiration for my stupid, stupid brain.  *smacks inside of head*

Anyway, that's about it.  I'll tell you how boarding school is when I get there.

Art school, here I come.

Eeeeek, I'm so happyyyyyyy.

Seriously.  Cannot stop grinning.

Got into art school, will start in August . . . and school's almost out!  Only like, fifteen more days!  And then the summer will whip past AND I'LL BE THERE!

I've always wanted to go to a British boarding school, and my parents couldn't do that for me, but this is better.  *sigh*  Happiness...oozing...

Anyway.  New student day is next weekend.  I'll get my new schedule.  I have classes from SEVEN UNTIL FIVE.  INSANE!  I'll have quite a few classes at the regular high school, too, i.e., AP EVERYTHING (including goddamn calculus) and then the rest of my time I'll be . . . what?  I have actually less than no clue what I'll be doing in class.  Ah, well.  I do love surprises.

Sorry for writing so many journals lately, but this is like the most major thing that's ever happened for me.  So, sweet.  Cheers!

P.S. I also got the lead in "Give My Regards To Broadway," for those of you I've been ranting to about it.  Note to self: develop New York accent.

A wonky computer - and audition!

Journal Entry: Tue Mar 25, 2008, 5:46 PM

Yes, 'tis true.
My computer hath gone wonky.

It's recovering from the awful "MonaRonaDona" virus.  You know how those have no cure, viruses?  Well, it's true.  Not even those snazzy smart guys from India could get rid of it, initially.  Now my poor, wonkified computer is slow as hell and not loading internet pages . . . ho hum.

Good news, though, I didn't have to wipe my harddrive and lose years of work!  Huffah!

Anyway, MonaRonaDona and I became good pals.  He spoke to me, you see.  Told me that he was going to use annoyance to slowly destroy the human race, and let me tell you, he very nearly succeeded.

Anywho, I'm now on my laptop, which shows everything in these vertical text lines, like I'm Japanese . . . Japanglish!  Ahahaa, hilarious me.

But I've returned!  Glitchy, wonkified, and more than a little pissed off, but back!  Yip yip yayay!

*does Blues Clues dance* I got an audition, I got an audition, I got an audition, because they liked my art!

Again, yes, it is true.
Julia got an audition at MSA.

Not quite IN the school yet, mind you, but how could they resist this face?
Oh, shut up.
What do you know.

So, that's really exciting.  It's set for April 5th, and that CAN'T FRIGGING COME SOON ENOUGH.  *grumbles*

On the other hand, I'm not sure this is such a big deal.  My friend Jessica who sent in an application as well got an audition, and she left her packet till last minute, etc, etc.... but maybe she did a great job and I'm just being paranoid.

Oh, God, I hope I'm just being paranoid . . .

But really, I'm handling the stress quite well.  *big grin*

Basically, what I'm going to have to do is get up at four AM to drive to the school and sign in for my nine-thirty appointment thingymagig, and then hang out with the awesometastic people there until then.  I'll probably hang around afteward, too, just because of aforementioned awesomtastic people.

The audition is pretty stressful, I heard.  I'm going to have to sit in front of a panel of teachers and administrators and tell them why I want to go to the school, how I cope in stressful situations, how I work with people, etc.  Basically, spew a bunch of junk that will make them love me.  No prob.

Then there's a writing thing, where I'll have to write an essay.  Not so good at essays, really.  I'm not sure what they'll have me do with my portfolio . . . I just know I have to bring it.

All in all (I wouldn't wrap up this quickly, but my mom's hemorrhaging in the background), I hope hope hope I get in.  I'll know by April 16.

I'll leave you with a final: EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! and bid you adieu.

Adieu! ;P

Heath Ledger, a 'promsing' actor?!

Journal Entry: Tue Jan 22, 2008, 3:38 PM
Quick life update:

Life's okay.  I've decided that I don't need my friends as much as I thought I did.  My immediate friends, that is.  I don't need to be accepted, and I certainly won't change to fit their expectations of me.

Yes, there were events that acted as the catalysts for this decision, but I think it was ultimately of my own mind.

The support of my DA friends has been as appreciated and infallible as always, and I thank you guys. :aww:

Celebrities themselves are beyond annoying.  If they weren't so great at portraying my favorite characters in movies, I'd be all for chucking them in a flat screen TV box and forgetting about them.

Sorry, but this whole ordeal is pissing me off.

I realize everyone and their brother's florist (who just happens to take nude photographs on DA, didja know?) is going to be commenting on this "breaking news," but I feel like I have to say something.

A "promising" actor was he, Fox news?
He was a pretty damn well established actor to me.
They make him out to be a beginner, or not as good as he was, or something.
It's a crazy world.
I hope he found peace wherever he is.

I don't know why I'm so... fume-y about it.  I wasn't angry, or sad beyond that what I can feel for a complete stranger, when Steve Irwin kicked the bucket.  Maybe it's the fact that he (I'm almost positive) killed himself.  28, with a baby on the way, more money than god, and he decides life's too much?

Sorry, there's something wrong with this picture.  If I were him and things were getting to be too much, I'd spin a globe, put my finger on it, and go wherever it was- even goddamn Baghdad, Georgia, or some random, lunatic place- and stay there until I felt better.

But what do I know?  It's just so... strange.  The people we'd think would be so happy- the people who have soceity's idea of "everything"- aren't.  They're miserable.  I'm not sure what that's trying to tell us, but I think we're all due for a reality check.  Or a fantasy check.

We either need to wake up or go to sleep for the first time- you decide.

Newsflash:My life is NOT a boring hellhole!

Journal Entry: Fri Nov 30, 2007, 3:05 PM
I wish I were narcoleptic.

Because it'd be nice to have an excuse.  I could just drop and sleep anywhere, and everyone'd be like, "oh, poor Julia the narcoleptic.  Let's get her a pillow and a down comforter, and give her an A in math anyway."  A girl can dream, can't she?

Reasoning behind newly discovered "good life":

So.  About this whole "life" thing.  I know, I know.  You're in shock.  Julia isn't complaining that her life is as mundane as one of, say, a middle class teenage girl in the suburbs, and is admitting that life is good.  Albeit, in a rather pessmistic manner.  No, I'm not ill.  No, I haven't eaten any funny mushrooms, or touched a sticky doorknob.  I actually have no idea what has come over me.  Let's review, shall we?

1. I have an interview tomorrow at MSA.
2. I have friends (!!!) that actually enjoy my company.
3. I bought a new jug of diet sweet tea.
4. I am not failing any classes. (Failing meaning getting a B.)
5. They put my solo back in the play.
6. Mom has not been strange/borderline-evil in a few weeks.
7. I bought almost twenty used books on Amazon.
8. It's FRIDAY!
11. I have a new title: The Yam.
12. I may be able to persuade myself to write another chapter of Love Ya, Unc, my chick-lit novel, this weekend.  Maybe even of Celestine's Angel.  Spectacularness, no?
13. It's nearly Christmas . . . although I should probably skip gifts this year . . . (and stop secretly using my mom's credit card online...)
14. I came one step closer to discovering a cure for HIV: it is NOT to make lima beans into a paste, spread it onto your palate, and sit with your mouth open in front of a toaster with a fork in it.  I'm almost 80% sure.
15. It turns out I'm not an insomniac; I just have very, very bad habits.

Also, I had a sense of self-realization.  To a degree.  I am a spoiled person who has no right to complain: and so I have stopped.  Until life gets bad-for-a-middle-class-teenager-in-suburbia again.  Or the internet cuts off.  Either one.

Coolio Julio, my friends.  Coolio Julio.

News from the gallows:

Taggeditis is a very, very contagious disease, and, here's the peculiar thing: the diseased appear to be able to pick out their next victim!  Very distressing.

Awesome Work:</b>

You know, I'm to the point where I've decided that because I am so thoughtless, I can't really show you any work, because none of it will do deviantart any justice. Everything is so awesome, I can't pick just one. But all the awesome peoples down there didn't get to be awesome peoples for nothing! Czech THEM out!

Not a complaint: New Mature Content Filter

Journal Entry: Sun Oct 7, 2007, 1:41 PM

This is NOT a complaint!  Don't get your panties in a wad!  It's very uncomfortable, anyway, and you don't really want to do that.

So.  This new filter.  At first, egged on by other incredulous deviants, I was... dun dun dun... incredulous!  And then indignant!  And then, finally, just completely pissed off when I realized I could not see one of my favorite artist's new work, because it contained some amount of nudity that I SEE ON THE SIDE OF CHILDRENS' WEBSITES.  There are girls MY AGE exposing their breasts on the sides of almost every website you'll go to.

Now, I'm all cooled down.  I'm still in a fair amount of shock, but I'll get over it.  It's actually really great that deviantART cares about all ages of users, and realized that the old mature content filter wasn't up to scratch.  It was completely ineffectual, and while I personally didn't mind that, it was hindering the entire deviantART process.  Seriously.  I read that some nude and fetish photographers were deleting their galleries because thirteen year old kids were commenting- and I don't blame them.  I wouldn't want to feel guilty and responsible like that.

Also, there's no denying that some of the stuff on this site is pretty much pornographic.  I don't want to go around viewing areas that should be reserved for intimate nights, etc.

So, in conclusion: I'd love it if we could ease up on the filter a bit, maybe have levels of filtering?  Because, honestly, if it's actually ART, I don't mind nudity.  I think it's pretty obvious what's a painting, or awesome photomanipulation, and what's a girl with nipple piercings standing completely exposed for the camera.

Sorry for the long journal... I just felt like I should stand up for both sides of this argument.  For the kids who love their art, and for the concerned adults who don't want their children exposed to things beyond their age or understanding.

Love from Julia.

1,000 Page Views!

Journal Entry: Sun Sep 30, 2007, 10:04 AM

I know for many of you with upwards of 100,000 pages, 1,000 is nothing, but I'm still excited. ;P

Thank you to all of my friends, comment-ers, and favorite-ers. :D

Lately my home life has been pretty shitty, and it's nice to have a really great site to come practice my handy-dandy escapism skills on.  So, thank you to DeviantArt, also.

On a weird note, I think I might need a therapist.  I'm not depressed, really, or I am, but not nearly to the extent of needing professional help.  No, I think I may be the only girl on the planet that WANTS her parents to get divorced.  And the reasons behind it are even more strange.

So, thanks again, for helping me through this rough patch, whether you did it consciously or not.

Love, Julia.

Look what I found!

This is so neat.  And purdy!

I subscribed, and now there're all these new little buttons to press...

Probably not good for my mental health.

But who's complaining?

I was told to have fun by a friend of mine... and, evidently, this is the best way to do it. ;P

The Rules:
1. Post these rules
2. Each person tagged must post 8 random facts about themselves
3. Tags should write a journal/ blog of these facts
4. At the end of the post 8 more persons are tagged and named
5. Go to their page and leave a comment telling them they're tagged

I'm going to do it!  Huzzah!

1. I'm incredibly lazy.  That's how I'm defined.  It's bordering on a mental disability... which therefore makes it a physical disability... which isn't fun.  I asked if there was a medication for laziness, and then realized that was being lazy!  It's a vicious cycle.

2. I can't drink regular soda.  It's so syrupy and sweet... yuck.

3. I'm getting knee surgery over thanksgiving.  I had staples put into both my growth plates a few years ago, because my knees were crooked.  Now they're straight, but I have to get the staples out (I get stopped in airports, lol).  Not looking forward to that.

4. My favorite band is Keane.  They're so cool!  I had a voice-induced crush on the lead singer, until I watched a music video and saw that he slightly resembled the pillsbury dough boy.  How shallow I am.

5. I've never had braces, nor will I ever need them.  Huzzah!

6. I'm getting a ball python and am naming it "Kenrick of Camelot"!

7. If I have sons, I'll name them Nebuchadnezzar and Ricochet.

8. I got heat stroke this summer.  In band camp.  People were asking me what I was looking for, because apparently I was doubled over, stumbling around, before I finally collapsed.  Embarrassing much?

Let's see...  I tag:

Hi guys!  I'm feeling very . . . peppy right now.  I'm not sure if this has ever happened-  within fifteen minutes of being thoroughly depressed and pessimistic, I mean.  I've certainly been chipper before.  Hehe.  I'm so English.

So- I'm hoping to apply to the Mississippi School of the Arts coming up soon.  In the brand new literature division.  Apparently, although it's a school that should teach you how to do things, you already have to know how to do what you're going there to learn about.  So, although I'd love to go in the art division, that's not going to happen.  *sigh*

But- I'm ecstatic and hopeful about the literature half of the deal.

I have to update my portfolio.... I think I have one structured poem, and the application calls for five different types.  ICKY!  Plus, my short stories are laughable now that I'm a bit older.  Must get cracking on another one of them, also.  Aye aye aye.  My fans on fictionpress are not going to be happy with me.

So, please keep your fingers crossed for me!  I'm so excited!

I love looking at everyone's art on here, don't get me wrong, but deviantart has this uncanny ability of making me painfully envious.  Where do ya'll learn to draw/paint/photomanipulate like you do?  Is there some big convention I've missed for fifteen years?

If only writing was visual, like the pictures I paint with words could become actually, well, pictures.  That'd be nice to see.  I bet my writing would improve just because I want to see very pretty pictures.  Convenient!

Well, enough complaining for me.  These journals will probably be filled with self-pity and arrogance, which is a shame.  Hopefully you will survive.

Julia, aka, SPIFTEC!
