I have always been inspired by fantastic and imaginative stories with dark themes. In addition to my love of fantasy, I grew up with a close relationship to (and love for) animals. These ideas and inspirations naturally made their way into my own work while I progressed as an artist.
I use traditional media including oils, acrylics, charcoal, graphite and pen/ink for all of my illustration work. I actually work full-time as a web developer, so painting and drawing are still a side-job and hobby for me. In addition to illustration, design and coding, I also play drums for Cultic (a Black-Death Battle Punk band from York, PA). I do all of this because I am compelled to create things, not because I have any end-goals (there was definitely a time in my life when I held onto lofty dreams of being a recognized artist, but I've long-since abandoned any notion of fame).
I'm a perfectionist, highly self-critical, and a workaholic. I sometimes experience a deep sense of inspiration when I work on a project, but I definitely spend more time feeling frustrated and wishing I was better at what I do. I think I learn the most from the pieces that I struggle the most with. I create because I NEED to... because I'm COMPELLED to ... because it's all I have ever done, and because it's the only thing I really want to be doing.
